This is very exciting as it's another Square Enix to have on Linux. The game itself I personally thought was excellent, as I played some of it on the PS3 years ago but never finished it.
From the press release:
Quote“We are delighted to be bringing one of gaming’s best-loved franchises to Linux in the exhilarating form of Tomb Raider,” said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive. “It traces Lara’s evolution from amateur explorer to battle-hardened survivor in an amazing adventure that Linux gamers will relish.”
Tomb Raider will be available from the Feral Store, Steam and other third-party stores, and will retail for US $19.99, £14.99 (inc. VAT) and €19,99 (inc. VAT).
About the game
Tomb Raider explores the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a young woman to a hardened survivor. Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold. Feral Interactive must have my secret list of games I want to see on Linux.
Now, the endless wait
Quoting: EikeHow much icon grinding is it? I liked the first hours of Shadow of Mordor, but then, in felt more like work than like fun...
It is not an 'open world game' a la Shadow of Mordor or Mad Max.
It is quite linear experience, but level design and artistic direction is top notch imho and I kinda like this 'mysterious island where every ship ends up to be' feel very much. It has very detailed background history and it is worth to collect all those artifacts and read letters. Levels feel open and you can backtrack and go sideways to discover interesting ruins quite a lot. Or you can just follow main thread if that's your thing. Game flows very nicely and it is certainly one of my better AAA gaming experiences in last years.
Quoting: KeyrockSo, was this the Stonehenge thing?
Good question. I think it must be?
Quoting: damarrinHmm, I already have this on Steam (caved in when it was released to try it in Wine). I wonder how I can give Feral some money...
Buy it as a gift for your friend who also does Linux gaming maybe.
