Update: Turns out it was a glitch.

@HeavyHDx @keyboardN1nja @gamingonlinux TR isn't out April 1st; there was a glitch with our news post! Sorry pals. ETA is still spring. :)

Feral Interactive announced today that Tomb Raider will release for Linux on April 1st, so it's going to be a fun weekend!

I've played the game myself on the PS3, although I never got to complete it. It's a really great game, and a game I've seen a lot of people ask for on Linux.

QuoteOn April 1st, Tomb Raider takes the leap onto Linux. Nothing can protect you from the dangers in store, but we can at least test the waters for you. And the forests. And the mountains. To say nothing of the Tombs.

I didn't even realize Feral not only announced their livestream of the game before it's released on Twitter, but their official site actually now has a release date of April 1st for Tomb Raider on Linux. It seems they are running a bit behind on their PR emails, and I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't click the link of their website about the livestream.

Some people think that date is an April fools, but I haven't heard a thing from Feral either way, so hopefully it's not. If it is, it's quite poorly done (It's not even April yet, come on!). I am hoping for the best though.

Exciting times ahead, too many games to keep track of, but I'm doing my best as usual for you folks.

I will be livestreaming it on the day of release, as I usually do for the bigger games. You can follow me on Twitch here.

About the game

Tomb Raider explores the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a young woman to a hardened survivor. Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold. Download the Turning Point trailer to see the beginning of Lara’s epic adventure.

Nice :)
But I kinda regret having already bought it in a sale on steam :/

Maybe I buy it again, I really want feral to get the money...

I'm really curious what the performance will be. On Windows the game was a real champ at hardware scaling. Manged to play it on my good old HD5770 back in the day.

Quoting: ThePierrasseApril fool?

If it is, then it's too early, terribly worded and just outright not cool.

It makes sense that they say nothing of the tombs, on account of tombs being nearly nonexistent in the game. :P

I've never played it before, so I'll certainly buy it when it's out!

@Feral: does it work well with the Steam Controller?

It was one of the last games I played through on PS3, and it was great. I liked how it took inspiration from Uncharted, which took inspiration from Tomb Raider in the first place. Will definitely pick it up again.

Did anyone ask about the DLC? is it worth buying the GOTY edition?
JJNova Mar 24, 2016
Is the game only going to be available through steam, or will there be a standalone launcher?
hardpenguin Mar 24, 2016
Finally, a release date! Gonna get it and transfer some money from my wallet to Feral!

UPDATE: Turns out it was a joke, move along.

I can't remember the DLC being all that meaningful.

No need to add further jokes on top of your typical AMD performance, Feral. :P

A big thanks to Liam and the GOL readers for noticing the News article had a date and contacted us to clarify the situation.

There was no joke, all our other posts about the live stream on Facebook, Twitter etc said "coming this spring" but due to a glitch in the matrix the news page said April 1st. Thanks for catching the typo and we're sorry for any confusion.

We'll announce a date as soon as we have one!

Liam - I know you've updated the headline but I still came into the article and read it through without realising that the date was wrong. Maybe it could be made clearer at the top of the article? 'was a Feral glitch' just had me wondering what you were talking about - Tomb Raider is a Feral glitch? The news leaking early was a glitch? The fact they announced it via their news page and not in a marketing email was a glitch? I really couldn't figure out which and as it turns out, none of the above was the answer :)
