Could be sad news ahead for strategy fans, as the original Total War: WARHAMMER announcement listed SteamOS in the platform list, but their latest messages don't seem too confident.
The original announcement said this:
QuoteTotal War™: WARHAMMER® for PC, Mac and SteamOS, coming soon.
Now their recent release date post doesn't mention Linux, and it only has a Windows icon.
After searching I came across this post:
QuoteTotal War: WARHAMMER will be out on PC, MAC and Linux next year but not necessarily at the same time. If I get any indication of dates I will post back to this thread.
They didn't sound too confident then, and it seems it's possible it won't be on Linux for day-1.
I will keep you posted if I see anything more.

Not happy, but not surprised either.

Again I dont mind waiting. If the port is solid.
But I can also see why some are getting sick of this.
And judging from the past, there games have been buggy as hell.
Unplayble at launch in fact. So once we get a linux port, all those bugs and optimasation issues might be fixed.

Given the state Total War games tend to be in at launch, this might not be such a bad thing. Still sucks, tho.

Borderlands Pre-Sequel was a great same day launch though.

As expected.

I say we devise a Linux release date formula.
days_to_release = (get.valve_time() * days_to_windows_release + (proprietary_middleware / budget))
days_to_release = (get.valve_time() * days_to_windows_release + (proprietary_middleware / budget))

Did anybody really expect this to be a Day 1 Linux release? Not to mention that the Total War series has always been notoriously unpolished upon released, so I think whoever is doing the port has their work cut out for them.
And besides, we're still waiting for the promised Rome II port, so let's all keep our expectations in check.

I'll take the launch delay. Releasing this on Linux at all is awesome.

Well that's pretty disappointing, I've been looking forward to this game for ages and had pre-ordered for the Chaos DLC. I guess I'll just have to cancel my pre-order if there's no announced release date. I wonder if the Linux version (if/when it comes) will have the pre-order Chaos DLC included?

I wasn't expecting a day 1 release anyway. as long as it eventually happens after most of the bugs are worked out then I'm all good with that.
