After upgrading to a 27 inch 4K monitor, I found that my desk was a little cramped and I couldn't fit another monitor on it. Someone in a recent livestream suggested a "monitor arm", and I am now using one I consider to be excellent.

image
It can be moved up and down on that big pole, which can be very useful to have things underneath.

It's the VonHaus Single Arm LCD LED Monitor Desk Mount Bracket for 13"-27". For the price (£14.99) I was a little uneasy but, wow, the build quality is fantastic.

The assembly is extremely simple even though the instructions aren't amazingly clear - even I found it easy to put together. The attention to detail on this bit of kit has impressed me; it has a handy clip on the main support pole to slot cables in to keep things tidy, for example. It also has two handy slots to stick the Allen Keys/Hex Keys in so you don't lose them. Little things like that make me really satisfied with the purchase.

Honestly, I am so happy with the amount of freedom that a monitor arm gives you that I am considering one for my main monitor now so I have more leeway in adjusting its position. I've never seen a monitor stand that has the functions the monitor arm linked above has.

image
It's incredibly sturdy too; the clamp feels good against my wooden desk and it feels like a really good fit. I was a bit worried about how well it would hold onto my desk, but it's close to perfection.

Pretty surprising what you can find for cheap. So, if you want another monitor but don't think you can fit one, think again. It has changed the way I think about my desk, and I love it.

Ps. Don't go buying that Asus 4K PB287Q monitor that I have, as the loud and obnoxious "radiation alarm" is still an issue. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I have the same monitor Asus 4K PB287Q and no alarm so far.
However I am not using the display ports.

I prefer the HDMI cable at resolution 2560x1440
With a good HDMI cable you can get a resolution up to 3840x2160 - refresh rate at 30.0Hz

Anyway thanks for the tip ;)

Looks really nice and sturdy. And way cheaper than the other ones I saw, too.
Would you mind adding a closeup picture of the clamp, to get an idea of how it if attached, please?
I am now seriously considering buying one :)

Liam, does it mean you play in front of monitor, not in front of TV? Why? :(

#FirstWorldProblems

I'll have to keep that in mind, as I've become nearly unable to work on a single-screen set-up ever since getting my KDE config just right.

You giggled like a schoolgirl when you typed that, didn't you? :D

Maaaaaaybe.

My TV is only 1080p and is not linked to my main PC. My TV is also used for other things like my Steam Machine and is over the other side of the room and many other reasons.

Yeah I can try and get a good picture of it.

Thank you very much. This is what I have been unhappy with in the other stands I have seen. This one looks quite sturdy, but I can't really see it in the first picture, while in the second one, the arm is right in front of it :-/
If you could just move the arm to the left and take the second picture again, it would be great :)

The Amazon page has some pretty detailed pictures of the clamp, if that helps.

Nor Greece. Does anyone know whether this is a suitable replacement? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-DM351X2-Monitor-Adjustability-Warranty/dp/B00HYWLT8E

1. Get old small desk
2. Buy 1 sheet of 5/8" cabinet wood and cut to desired desktop size.
3. Stain, paint and finish with eurthane if desired.
4. Mount new desktop on old desktop with glue or screws
5...?
6. Profit / Prosper
