Good news alien hunting fans, XCOM 2 has been patched for Linux and the Anarchy’s Children DLC is now enabled for us.
It comes with a bunch of fixes and optimizations from the recent Windows patch too!
Partial changelog:
QuotePerformance
- Added Zip Mode gameplay option. While Zip Mode is enabled animation (like step outs & gremlin movements) speeds are significantly increased. Normal movement animations are moderately increased
- Adds “Zip Mode” description text
- Fixed an issue where shadow rendering during glam cam shot transitions was slowing down performance
- Reworked Light Clipping Manager
- Particle Vertex Buffer Reallocation
- Optimization to shadows in the Avenger
- Enable triple buffering to fix VSync performance
- Shadowed light fade out within Avenger; Disabled Post & Pre Mission cinematic lights not being used
- Disabled shadow casting from character lights w/in Avenger
- Reduced High Shadow Resolution - Reduce shadow resolution when set to HIGH to 1536, instead of 2048
- Reduces the impact count of the Avatar Rifle
- Removed a hitch that occurs when the camera enables/disables building visualizer
- Deferred profile saves to next tick. This prevents multiple calls within the same frame from creating multiple requests to save the profile
- After changing graphics settings, based on the selected preset, extra crew will be capped
- Character head mesh optimized

I will most likely be doing a livestream of my playthrough soon, so look out for it!
I still think it's easily one of the best games available on Linux to date, and I will be putting a lot of time into this one.

I want more faces/heads to choose from. The outfits are fine, but the heads - there's far too few and too similar to choose from!
Edit: I now talk about the female heads - dunno if the male heads are better. I only deal with dames whenever possible.

Awesome. I really don't give a crap about the DLC, but performance improvements and bug fixes are always nice even though the game is running pretty good for me as is.

If you use nvidia proprietary drivers, the latest 364.12 fix a performance regression. Now going from 17 to 27 fps in the Avenger view.

I installed 364.12, and I'm getting an "unsupported driver" warning when starting XCOM 2. The game still works, but I did notice some slight hitching that wasn't there before. It could be due to the patch, but I'm rolling back to 358.16 for now.

I got the same message in 361.18; dunno if it's significant or not o3o

Rolled back to 358.16, and that solved it. The warning message is gone, and the game runs smooth as silk again. Actually, the performance is noticeably improved, so the patch definitely did something. Of course I'm still getting my teeth kicked in, but that's apparently because I suck at the game.
