Today is the day we get another popular game! Darkest Dungeon is now officially available on Linux, ported by Aaron from Knockout Games.
Just got sent a key from the developer, so expect some thoughts in a day or two when I have put some time into it properly! Many thanks to Red Hook Studios for the chance.
From the release announcement:
QuoteWe are happy to announce that Linux is officially out as a supported platform! Earlier this month we put out a beta version of the Linux build and with the help of our community members we’ve addressed all the major issues and feel confident in the current stability of the build to give it a wide release.
We want to thank Aaron Melcher of Knockout Games for his hard work in doing the port! Many Linux players will probably recognize his name as he has done many Linux ports for various popular games, and he has done a great job on Darkest Dungeon. We also want to thank our community members who jumped in early to help track down bugs and report them to Aaron as he worked on getting the build ready for release.
About the game
Darkest Dungeon is a challenging gothic roguelike turn-based RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring.
Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes through twisted forests, forgotten warrens, ruined crypts, and beyond. You'll battle not only unimaginable foes, but stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark. Uncover strange mysteries, and pit the heroes against an array of fearsome monsters with an innovative strategic turn-based combat system.
No SteamOS icon yet, but I imagine that's only a matter of ticking a few last boxes somewhere.

Love the game! It's frustrating as well as incredibly atmospheric.
To be honest, after having played the beta for 49 hours now, I'm not sure if I'll be able to endure it to the end credits. It's just that tough to spend several hours building up a "dream team" of adventurers, train them to the max, equip them with the best gear my hard earned gold can buy...only to have them all obliterated when the dungeon boss pulls an ace out of the sleeve.
Still, an amazingly addictive game and the only bug I have come across is that the "mini-map" you use for navigating the dungeon will sometimes fail to show up when I start a new dungeon. Easily fixed though, just pop back out to the main menu and then back again and the map will almost always appear (otherwise try again).

Work your way through a bunch of minions, using whats left of your health and then get obliterated by a boss with one hit. Respawn at the last bonfire, find out all the minions are back and repeat.

Expect that half of your team is death and the rest has gone nuts. I lost 2 teams at the first boss and that's not cheap... Hell at least my good plague doctor alive.. but he got banished from the bordello.. he evolved some disturbing fetishes ;-)

I just read that PS4 users are pissed because the port has been been delayed until late summer.

The game is available for Linux at GOG.com as well now:
"Works on:
Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10), Mac OS X (10.9.0+) and Linux (Ubuntu 14.04)"

I'll wait for the next sale though. Reading through all the reviews mentioning that the player is dying a lot, I reckon I wouldn't spend much time playing it. Still I'm interested in the game for its art work and atmosphere.

Hi
yes will (cheeckily) wait for at least a little discount.
For those that do not know this is strongly related to the Torchbearer RPG published by Thor & Luke sometime ago (originally via Kickstarter).
