Show us your gaming desk setup, here's ours

By -
Today I thought it would be fun to show you what myself and Samsai have setup for our desks and gaming setups, and see what yours are too.

Myself
Here is my little bit of heaven, what I regularly use for all GOL work and livestreaming
image
Proudly still using my Linux Voice mug.

The corner when my desk sits is also quite dark, I really do need to look into a lamp as it's hurting my eyes more and more.

I'm starting to feel like my desk just isn't big enough. The pull-out tray for my keyboard and mouse certainly isn't, and I don't want them on the top of the desk as it's too high and would take up too much room. Looks like in a few months I will need to look into my desk situation again. This desk also isn't big enough to host my tower unit, as it's rather large.

Then there's also my Steam Machine situation
image
I do need a smaller case for my Steam Machine, but it also hosts other systems so it has a number of hard drives in it, plus the size of the Nvidia 970 inside has been a problem.

Samsai
Here is the setup Samsai uses for his weekly GOL livestream, articles and GOL Cast videos. The Coca Cola glass is an integral part of the setup.

Sobkas

Not used just for gaming, but still all have their uses. :)

Here's a picture of my setup:

The system is actually brand new, I built it just a week ago. Had to order a new case to fit my new GTX 980 Ti and then the painstaking task of moving everything over. But I'm glad I did it because everything's snappy again.

Specs:
Intel Core i5-4690K
MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti
24 GB of DDR3 RAM
1 TB Hitachi Disk

Quoting: hummer010I'm two hours east of Edmonton, also just a short ways South of 16 (6 miles south).

I'm heading to UFA today!

My mother hails from around those parts. But anyway, do not want to take this too off topic.

Quoting: lidstahMine's really messy right now (a truckload of work), and as it's Saturday, will be cleaned later this afternoon. Sorry for the potato phone camera quality…

That's a bit like my work desktop. Two 2048x1152 monitors in portrait mode for editing source code with a 2560x1440 on the left for references.

I see many of you guys have (music) keyboards; what software do you use them with? I've had nothing but bad experience with Midi keyboards and Linux.

Here's my humble setup. I hope you don't mind the stupid ancient Mac in the background.

The only thing I can really show off is my blank keyboard; a Unicomp Model M clone:

Quoting: TacoDeBossHere's mine! I use an old CRT I got for $10 as my second monitor.. It comes in handy :D

Funny thing. Most of the Linux gamers hate M$ so much that they remove Windows logo from the keyboard. You have Windows logo in your Linux system :D

Edit: Sun came back in the morning, so you get to enjoy better lighting.

That beauty down there:
i5 6600K
EVGA GeForce 960 4GB
16 GB RAM
250 GB SSD, 3TB HDD
24" screen
Microsoft ergonomic keyboard, I quite like their hardware, they should just focus on that.
Cheapest corded no-brand mouse I could find.
32" TV is an optional second display.

(deleted the pic link in the quote, as it's already on page 6)

Indeed, portrait mode monitors are really, really nice for editing or reading stuff. I'm a sysadmin so I don't code that much (except some bash or perl scripts), but my workflow is like this on my main window group (StumpWM):

* Left screen: everything "communication related": IRC/IM/Mail
* Left portrait screen: Editing scripts, checking git logs, checking devs code, pushing in preproduction/production, various ssh sessions to preproduction/production servers in tmux sessions
* Right portrait screen: Web browser and zathura (pdf and such) for documentation or chill out
* Rightmost screen: monitoring

On my "steam" group:

* Left screen: IRC/IM/Mail
* Left portrait screen: top (small) split: $ watch -n10 sensors (I'm a bit paranoid with my CPU temperature :p), bottom split: main tmux session, HATop on my main client's front servers, so if something goes wrong while I'm gaming I can take action fastly.
* Right portrait screen: web browser
* Rightmost screen: steam UI, games.

I'm quite fond of StumpWM+windowtags plugin :)
