I am a bit of a sucker for space strategy games and Solar Division certainly looks unique enough to give it a mention. It's also not in Early Access, it's a full game, so that's nice.

It's from the same developer who gave us Zotrix.

I've sent the publisher a request for a key, so hopefully I can cover it properly in future.

About the game
The battle against Zotrix aliens is getting closer to your door step. Every space station in the network is in danger and Solar Division command needs your help to setup proper strategy for the defense. This, primarily strategy game, blends game mechanics between tower defense and real time strategy with hybrid elements such as patrolling ships, navigation towers. You are trusted this important task before whole network is taken to the edge of the unknown.

A 2D strategy game... In space.
SPACE, folks. The ultimate three dimensional room in existence. In SPACE they line up units in a two dimensional grid and fight for dominance. Not on a floor, not on a ground, not on any kind of logical surface, not even thin air - but in the middle of nothing. In SPACE.

It's not like games are the epitome of realism anyway, but FFS: If they want a space theme, at least place the two dimensions onto a planet surface? Or a star base?

Realism doesn't always trump fun. :)

Not that this game is my kind of fun.

In fact it usually doesn't when it comes to gaming. But that wasn't my point either. :D

I've been given a key, so I can do some thoughts on it sometime soon.

As for 2D vs 3D, who cares really? If a game is fun, it's fun.

I've played a few levels, and so far I haven't seen any RTS elements. It does bring some elements I haven't seen in other tower defense such as patrolling drones and rolling back to checkpoints (which seems to be buggy for me), but I don't think those are very RTS-like either. The towers are not very innovative and there seem to be a lot of redundancy. I think the game has potential, but right now, it's not as interesting as the screenshots might suggest.
