Well, not long after someone reported the issue to Valve from my benchmarks, the performance penalty of using Vulkan with the Steam Overlay seems to be mostly fixed.
Beta changelog:
Nice to see my benchmark prompted Valve to push this issue a little quicker. See their release announcement here.

Quoting: melkemindWhen you run the Vulkan drivers, do they function well/normally with the desktop and other games, or do you have to switch back to other drivers when you're not testing Vulkan?
They're absolutely fine with everything else. (I'm using the 364.16 right now.)

Though seriously, why is it spelled with a 'k'? The word obviously derives from the Latin "Vulcanus" -- the Roman equivalent of Hephaestus; and in Latin the letter 'c' accounts almost exclusively for the 'k' sound.
I mean, if the 'k' were at the beginning, I would've suspected intervention by the KDE e.V.; but that doesn't seem to be the case.

364.16? Realy? Or did you mean 364.15?

Quoting: wvstolzingI assume the word "Vulcan" is copyrighted by Paramount. But being a lifelong Star Trek fan, I habitually type "Vulcan" and have to consciously remember to type it as "Vulkan" in this context.Quoting: minjThough seriously, why is it spelled with a 'k'? Quoting: tuubiMaybe for the same reason the organization is called Khronos group instead of Chronos group?
Actually 'Chronos' is the Latinized form of a Greek word; and it could be spelt with a 'K' without conflicting with the original spelling.
In Greek the word is spelt with an 'X', not with a 'K'; but 'K' is a 'Greek' letter, so you could say it carries with it some of the original flavor.
Though, sure, it's probably a reference to the 'K' of the 'K'hronos group.
