I often see people complain about the lack of MMO games on Linux, so maybe RuneScape will be a bit more appetising when they release "NXT" their new OpenGL powered game engine on April 18th.

I am very interested to see how this turns out, as RuneScape did look quite dated last time I tried it. Not to mention being a pain to setup and get it running on Linux, so it's not only great to see it get an update with better visuals, but proper Linux support too.

It's not really that hard to get working! Just one tiny script and you are good to go :)

However, it's going to be great with better graphics and possibly vulkan support in the future (the developers said something about this in one of the blog posts).
Also, to those of you who are interested:
The game is rather fun! Very well made quests and a lot of detail in general.
I also very much recommend creating a hardcore character at some point. It's very fun and scary :)

Read that yesterday too ... was excited about it. 18th April will be the day where I try Runescape again. I would like a (for me) new playable MMO, and Runescape seems like a game which I could like.
Albion isn't for my taste, and SotA is heading a direction I don't like, so it won't probably be for me either (I kickstarted it, so I'll try it again after release).
If more people want to try it here: How about a GoL guild to level together? :D.

Well, I can understand why many developers prefer pulse over alsa. Alsa is a mess :D.

Alsa may be difficult to use, but pulse is useless and crappy/buggy middleware (that actually just uses alsa). Probably best to do as stan said.
As for NXT, I've been waiting for it for months, and even longer for a good MMORPG that can run on an Intel (from what I hear, it can with NXT). Java has too many vulnerabilities and memory leaks (unless designed really really well, and even then -- only for the memory part; vulner always there). It's also not made for heavy duty performance.
Till then, you can try the not-that-popular other Linux 3D MMORPGs that are worth even looking at: Ryzom, Eternal Lands, Regnum, Auteria. Maybe you'll appreciate how much better RuneScape is by comparison, even though the first 2 of those are actually FOSS (Ryzom including resources).

Cool runescape on linux :P.
Btw theres an unoffical runescape installer but this will be so much better.
Cuz unoffical can have crashes + it useing java with an standalone client so.
Well now i am hyped about this :P cuz of the updates on deadman mode :D
