It seems The Witness may one day see a Linux release, although the developer expects to make a loss on it, it may come to Linux "for fun or for ideological purposes".
Writing on the official Steam forum, the developer reiterated previous statements.
I think the developer is still basing the majority of their thoughts on some pretty outdated information, like Ubuntu Software Centre sales statistics for Braid (I don't know anyone who purchased anything using the USC):

While it's still true it wouldn't make a lot of money, as we all know our market share isn't amazing, it's still nice to see it's not totally ruled out.
Hopefully one day it will happen, and we can test it out.
About the game
The Witness is a single-player game in an open world with dozens of locations to explore and over 500 puzzles. This game respects you as an intelligent player and it treats your time as precious. There's no filler; each of those puzzles brings its own new idea into the mix. So, this is a game full of ideas.

I've been interested in The Witness, but I can pass. There are too many good games out these days. It truly makes it easier to turn down Windows-only games.

Hmmm, I can believe that. However, I can't find any news sources reporting it as such. They must have just rolled with the more entertaining version of the story.

Sounds like a drama queen to me. with his bad attitude, and insulting approach the possible Linux market I think It would be best if he kept his opinions to himself and kept away from Linux too.
I would not buy anything he produced on any system. by his own admission he's more than happy to release a substandard product and take the money and run.

As far as I know, he didn't even bother working on the Linux port of Braid at all. He got Ryan Gordon to do it.
Maybe he tried and failed, gave up and got Ryan on board. In that case, which I find unlikely, I'd probably just laugh.

Yes, AFAIK he didn't give a sh*t even back then.
The only reason to have port it at all was because it was
a strict requirement to participate in the Humble "Indie" Bundle.
