Quite a fan of Discord myself, makes setting up chats really easy and the new native client is coming along nicely. The recent update now correctly detects you playing games.
While our IRC channel is still far more popular, I can't help but love Discords many great features. Being able to both voice and text chat is pretty useful, as is having the client on my phone as well.
It's not for everyone, but it's popular, it's useful and it's on Linux.

Oh so there is a linux version of this, I was just using "XNBLANK"'s Discord-Linux electron wrapper for a while waiting for a linux version, this is great news! And it works quite well.

Is that the real official app? Google Chrome throws a warning about suspicious software when saving the deb package. Also, I don't see any news about this 0.0.5 version on Reddit (where the first version was announced) nor on the Discord web app.
I'm a bit surprised by the warning from Chrome, I never got one for deb packages before.

Yes it is the official app, would have said if it wasn't. Here's the original reddit post linking to it: https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/4bu7lm/discord_linux_very_experimental_canary_release/

I used the 0.0.1 release during a WoW session and it seemed to work fine. Granted it didn't have game detection at the time, but I wonder if said game detection supports games running in Wine.

Love Discord! But... now I'm only playing Paragon and Overwatch(starting tonight) so have been on linux less.

Sadly, Discord has to fight to a stablishment where Team Speak has tons of licensed (paid) servers and the community plugins for TS like ArmA3 or IL2 Sturmovik radio plugins... It will be a hard fight.

I still think that after all this time, all games with a multiplayer aspect would have the functionality built in. Consider an MMO where if you aren't within a certain distance, your group can't hear you. If for example in something like ArmA, you had to whisper to ambush your enemies, whether they are people or AI. I think one of the Splinter Cell games had this option. Adds to the Immersion.

I think Unturned works this way
