Feral Interactive are teasing our minds with a new clue for a Linux & Mac port to come. It's time to get your thinking caps on.

Here's their new clue in the Very Soon section:

"808 SB12S" is the clue.

As usual, I will leave it up to you lot who are way better than I am at decrypting Feral's teasers.

Feral sure do have quite a few games coming out this year for us, exciting. I just hope they continue to work on previous ports like XCOM 2 and Tomb Raider which aren't quite up to scratch. We are already behind on the recent XCOM 2 patch and DLC, so it's time for them to up their game. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Also, few people know this, but one of John Carmack's many talents is that he's a virtuoso trumpet player -- and his favorite instrument happens to be the 'System Blue 12S; or the SB12S'

So, discussion over, I believe?

When Vulkan was officially released back in April, Khronos group knew what Apple was doing with Metal and they create, at the same time, MetalVK (now called MoltenVK) which allows to run Vulkan applications directly over Metal.

https://moltengl.com/moltenvk/

So, with that "abstraction layer" (or whatever), a Vulkan -> Metal port should be trivial, even Doom.

...but Carmack's not involved in Doom 4 in any possible way.

Still, it looks like a good hint. You guys are slowly convincing me, I hope Feral won't disappoint!

I think you folks are over thinking this:

Mars - Roman God of War
808 SB12S - Lyric from MC Hammer

Warhammer - in one of it's incarnations.

Already stated earlier, and it's a reliable hint for sure.

The most obvious title should be Dawn if War II, but I wonder if we're not already too late in development process to tease it through their radar. Everybody knows it's coming, and it already has a Linux launcher, according to SteamDB.

It can't be Warhammer Total War as it's been officially confirmed long ago...

So what can it be?

There's a motorbike by Buell calles SB12S Lightning (or Lightning Long).

But I would also be happy if it would be DooM! :)

And it's known to the select few, that this used to be American McGee's favorite motorbike model.

You gotta give it to Feral; they've managed to capture so many levels of id software lore with a single hint.

Volition now have a relation with Virtual Programming, so it would not make a lot of sense that Feral would do such a port.
I don’t think Volition had anything to do with the Linux ports; Saints Row was published by Deep Silver

Volition didn't do the work, but comments on the Steam forums indicate that people from Volition and Virtual Programming are in close contact with each other. Based on what I read there I also conclude that Volition and not the publishers own the rights to these games.

Volition developed Saints Row and Red Faction games, but when the publisher, THQ, went belly-up, they sold off the rights of Saints Row to Deep Silver and sold Red Faction rights to Nordic Games. Nordic promised a lot of Linux ports like Darksiders, which they have yet to deliver. I even saw Red Faction: Guerrilla mentioned once, but they seem incapable of following through.

Sometimes, the enigma is better than the game itself

And now a hundred comments ! :-D
I hope it is Doom because of what it could mean with Bethesda starting to edit on Linux. Plus the game seems really good :-)

I hope it is DOOM. Really want to play that game.

I just took a look on the radar and have to say:
If this teaser is not about DOOM and Drifting Snows is not about DIRT: Rally, then I don't want to have teasers anymore. I don't like to be disappointed and I will treat other titles as disappointment.

What's more - teasers are fine if they are about titles to be released in future. But I consider "Very Soon" section as very near future. Very near future should be about titles, so I would know if I should prepare some money for them.

Also, the main thing holding a potential port of DOOM back, would be the use of the Denuvo DRM system, but apparently Total War: Warhammer is also using Denuvo and that game is coming to Linux, so that reason may be out the window :)
Ulukai May 31, 2016
Denuvo was not in the Doom beta either. If it could be added at a later stage, it can easily be removed later. It's just a matter of permissions and other solutions.

Seriously hoping for Doom too.

The problem with removing Denuvo instead of porting it is that I don't think Zenimax would ever allow it.
