Details are light on what this will be, but it's exciting. Julian Gollop, who created the original X-COM has announced he is creating a new strategy game called Phoenix Point. I have it from the man himself that Linux will be supported.

From his article on it:
QuotePhoenix Point is the new project from my studio, Snapshot Games. Last year we launched our first game, Chaos Reborn, to critical acclaim achieving an 85% Metacritic rating. Now I am going back to my sci-fi roots with an XCOM style game that incorporates the modern presentation and slick game play of the Firaxis reboot with the more strategic, open-world approach of the very first X-COM game from 1994.
He is currently looking to talk to publishers and investors about it.
Exciting, can't wait to see what he is able to create. I did like the style of his newest game Chaos Reborn, but I sadly didn't get along with the random elements to it since it was mostly an online player vs player combat game.

First of all hope he can get it financed.

I'll happily kick-start this one, as I did for Chaos Reborn. I've ploughed more hours into Julian's games than everything else combined.

If it is even remotely as good as the original XCOM, it'd be an instabuy for me. ^_^
