Legends of Eisenwald an adventure game with tactical battles, RPG and strategy elements is finally coming to Linux thanks to help from Codeweavers and Wine.

So don't expect their future games to get a true native port either. Still, if Codeweavers manage a good port it will be okay. If used well, Wine can be an excellent resource for us, but some recent Wine ports have been pretty poor for me personally.
Back in November of last year they stated that sales had simply not been good enough.

For existing games, Wine is ok I guess. But I don't think it will be too great for stuff like Fallout/Skyrim. If optimized correctly then Wine can run just as fast as Windows (check out Tomb Raider). But Native is definitely better, wish the industry didn't rely so heavily on DirectX, as it is now biting them in the asses!
Maybe if they sell enough of these ports, they will release a native version later on? Either way it will be interesting to see the performance cost of using Wine here..

Anything that helps us use Windows less is a good thing to my eyes.
An oficial port means oficial support for our platform and that is always appreciated even if using Wine. I mean, if it were no oficial word about it I would still use Wine anyway...
So let this port be welcome and may their effort be rewarded with generous sales.

I've been interested in this game for a long time. Hopefully their DRM free version on GOG gets this Linux version.

If at first wrappers are to be used, I very much applaude that Wine is the one. It would be really great if more software houses contributed to this project instead of making their own.

Otherwise they'd have implemented proper abstraction layers and separate graphics backends, even if there was only one to begin with. Of course it'd still be a lot of work.
