Recently the developer of Stardew Valley announced that Chucklefish (developers of Starbound) would handle porting Stardew Valley to Linux & Mac. Chucklefish have now announced they are working with Sickhead Games on the porting process.
From the Chucklefish blog
QuoteAs fans of Stardew Valley ourselves, we’re super excited about this! We’re working with Sickhead Games on Mac and Linux ports, and our very own Tom Coxon – developer of Lenna’s Inception and a programmer on Starbound – is leading the project, as well as developing co-op multiplayer for Stardew Valley.
ConcernedApe will retain creative control over everything, of course, and we will be working very closely with him to ensure that the game’s overall intimate feeling and personality is retained in every version of the game.
The idea is to considerably reduce ConcernedApe’s workload and allow him to focus on making cool stuff! He’s listed some of the aforementioned cool stuff in his blog post, so go check it out!
I still think it's sad ConcernedApe didn't go with porter Ethan Lee who already had a prototype port available. If a game developer is looking to make a Linux port, go contact him and give him some work, he's really good.
Hopefully we won't be kept waiting too long, as I really want to play it.

I didn't know these guys do Linux & MAC ports - it looks like they have Sony console ports on their list?

Following the discussion here https://twitter.com/flibitijibibo/status/730794103999434752 you seem to be right about this one being their first port... oh dear

It will be a shame if it turns out to be a bad port or they just give up the project entirely and blame Linux for being a pain in the ass. I really need this game to work, a fan of Harvest Moon for a long time. :(I didn't know these guys do Linux & MAC ports - it looks like they have Sony console ports on their list?

Just gonna echo the sentiment: super glad we're getting a port, sad it's not Ethan Lee doing it.

*facepalm* Sometimes Guys...
IMHO ConcernedApe has made a good choice. ChuckleFish is his publisher, which has experience with Linux! Also has Tom Coxon, which is a Linux gamer btw., Linux experience with his own game Lenna's Inception and Starbound. True, Sickhead Games seems not to have much experience with Linux, but they have with MonoGame. Not to mention that they also involved in the development of the MonoGame Framework which they used for their ports for PS4 and it is available on Linux too.
That way Stardew Valley will not only be ported to Mac & Linux. It also replaces the outdated XNA with MonoGame, which is much more then Ethan has to offer.
So overall I'm not surprise about that decision and I see a good team here which can and will do it. I only hope it doesn't take to long. I hate to boot windows! :(
Just in case that you don't know who Tom Coxon is, and looks very like it:

Ethan is the creator of FNA which was forked from MonoGame. FNA is used in lots of ports and is far more accurate at everything than MonoGame (as it focuses directly on desktop games), not to mention Ethan constantly works on making FNA perform a lot better.

We don't even know that ConcernedApe had a choice in this matter. Since Chucklefish is the publisher, they might have been under contractual obligation to go through them for ports. This game is a hit, judging from the sales, so we're talking about a lot of money here.

I don't know if you are trolling or not, but Ethan's FNA is no slouch. Most of us here wish Ethan did the Stardew Valley port (since he is more talented than the majority of porters out there), but now we have to settle for a sloppy port. Great....

I wouldn't count the port out already, I just trust Ethan's porting skills more.

I'm also big fan of Ethan Lee as some of my dearest linux games were ported by him, starting with his first port, Capsized, which I got on one of the first humble bundles, that was one of the major points into my full time Linux switch.
That said, user Crazy penguin had a point
If Sickhead manage the linux port well, then the console ports will be next. They also ported to the consoles (PS4 PS Vita) other games that Ethan Lee ported before, like Apotheon, Dust or Escape Goat 2.
That said, it is indeed sad that Ethan is loosing many ports recently. Maybe stepping up to the console ports too?
If a studio like Sickhead that is specialized in monogame ports to consoles, also gets experience in Linux/mac porting too, then it would have a full porting ability and that would be bad for specialized one man porters like Ethan. :(
EDIT: Spellchecking :S

Being "self-employed" (as Americans like to put it) I can sympathize with Ethan, but we can't expect him and Aaron Melcher, Ryan C. Gordon, Aspyr and Feral to handle all of the ports and all of Linux game development forever.

I'm excited that it's getting done. I'll wait 'til the pie is in my mouth before I say it tastes gross. It smells good from here.
