Ballistic Overkill, an online class-based FPS recently released Linux support, but it was another we totally missed. I picked up a copy and took a look.

Note: It's in Early Access.

It's another in a long list of titles that never showed up in the new releases section for Linux, as it had a Windows version already. Thanks to gkeen in our IRC for pointing it out.

Reading the features, it sounds very much like our own version of Overwatch (the recent Blizzard release). It plays differently though, so don't expect that.

I have to say, I'm extremely impressed by what I've seen so far. It's exactly the kind of FPS game I have been wanting to see on Linux. It's a bit slower paced, the weapons feel good and feel slightly realistic and it has some fun abilities.

At one point I went to shoot someone, he phased out of view with some invisibility skill and slashed a guy up close to him with a freaking sword. It was quite amusing to see!

Not only did I find the gameplay enjoyable to the point of wanting to go back in after posting this, it works fine with two monitors displaying on the correct one too.

Performance wise, it seems really quite good. Surprisingly good, as it was built in Unity. I seemed to get above 60FPS constantly on High settings at 1080p while recording with the recorder set to record 60FPS. That's actually quite amazing.

It does have a few issues here and there, mostly due to it not being finished yet. One level I forgot the name of where you're in a warehouse has a problem with spawn camping.

I think you guys will like this, come join me for a game or two. It's cheap as well, awesome!
