Well this is confusing, but still awesome. Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition supporting Linux/SteamOS is now 100% official.
From their update here:
QuoteWe are happy to announce that Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition now supports Linux & SteamOS!
And don't forget: As a Steam owner of either the original Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, or both titles, you’ll also automatically receive a loyalty discount of up to 85% off the respective Definitive Edition of the game(s) you own, as well as a discount on the Definitive Collection bundle based on whether you own one or both.
Happy hunting!
Confusing, because Deep Silver told me directly this wasn't happening. I shot them an email early this morning (with no reply as usual) pointing out their tweet and how the Linux/SteamOS versions were actually on Steam. Now hours later it's all official.
Great news. As usual though, proper communication to us would be nice.
Thanks for letting me know zerodogg.

Nah just a lot of confusion. About a month ago they did announce that linux would be supported when the DE's launched. It was around release day when people were getting told there wouldn't be a linux version, even though it was available to download and play immediately.

Really great news.
But there is a drop of bitterness for me... as a german customer I can't buy the Dead Island series through the steam store. So even though I own the original games, I can't get the advantage of the discount :-(

Maybe someone can provide a secure proxy. In fact, you may even be able to get it done through a sourceforge shell.

I just bought a steam key for the Dead Island - Definitive HD Collection from www.okaysoft.de, absolutely legal, been buying games from that store for more than ten years now. You have to send them a copy of your ID card once though (games 18+).
(and I didn't care for the discount) ;)

This is weird, it won't launch on my rig, with latest nVidia drivers...

It has some quirks. The audio never works out of the box, I always have to run pulseaudio -k, and alt+tab back to the game screen. The overlay screen makes the game crashes when I click on settings (probably other links as well). Nevertheless, my initial walk through was a, almost, "bug free" experience. I'm curious about the coop, but I've no plans to buy the "DI" remastered because I finished it already (with lots of coop issues), and none of my friends have DI: Riptide definitive edition.
