Dungeon Defenders has been out of date on Linux for a long time and the developers need a Linux developer to help get it updated.

This is the problem with outsourced ports. The people you get to do the port are often busy doing other ports and work too, so it's always best to have in-house work.

Speaking on reddit (and confirmed officially and linked to it from their twitter):
iamisomCommunity manager for Trendy here. Thanks for the post, /u/nano351, and I'm very sorry for the frustration. I know this post is a few days old now, but here's an update on the Linux build:
We outsourced our Linux port in 2013. The original contractor for the Linux version is no longer available. We've tried reaching out to several other potential contractors, but they've all fallen through so far. Internally, our resources are 100% dedicated to Dungeon Defenders II as we're a small team. It's possible we may be able to take some time away from DD2 to update Linux, but it's no small task from what I understand. If anyone here is a Linux developer and would like to help out, please message me.

Hopefully someone will step up and help them get it sorted out. Always a shame to see a Linux version get left in the dust, especially on a popular and well reviewed game. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Did anyone try DD ? Because last I tried playing it there was bug that I couldn't rotate properly. I was so very hard to do 180.

I've played it, but had some issues with controllers (lag, inputs not recognized).

I think their problems where presents in 2013. Maybe it'll be a good thing to seek and destroy bugs on this port to understand how a linux port could function.

I have tried it recently and ditched it for the same reason, the controls felt clunky as hell.

Is this about DD1 or DD2?

Isn't DD2 coming to Linux? Why bother fixing the old one now? The last time I played it, I was able to get it working fine with a little fiddling with the controls.
lucifertdark Jun 14, 2016
Fixing the old one so we can actually play it would go a long way to selling the second one to Linux gamers, cause unless they fix the first one I'll never buy the second one if it ever comes to Linux.

Isn't this a port by Icculus?
"Not available anymore" means we won't pay for additional maintenance work?
Sometimes more information would be very interesting.

And I totally agree. In-house porting is the way to go.

It might have been different years ago, but today:
If you want a Linux build, make the right choice of your
engine plus middleware and there should be next to no obstacles.

DD2 is F2P game

Holy shit! I thought this game was abandoned with the release of the definitive edition (DD Eternity). At this point, I lost all remaining interest in the game, because it felt wrong that several improvements, which should have been patches, were sold as a new game. But judging from the reviews, it seems like the devs abandoned DD Eternity in favor of DD1.

Why is Ryan C. Gordon aka icculus not reachable anymore? He did a lot of good ports! Of course some may have a few bugs if the companies didn't sign maintaining contracts.

That's the actual case.

So it is, I still wouldn't buy into it though.

Hmm. I'm a bit confused. DD1 works better for me than some of the more recent ports to Linux, like the Saints Row games. What exactly is broken about it?
GustyGhost Jun 14, 2016
For many, DD1 has issues with mouse sensitivity when in first or third person perspective. Even with my DPI turned all the way up on my gaming mouse, it takes several sweeps across my mouse mat just to turn the camera. This isn't a problem with bird's eye perspective, however.

The other issue is that gems don't gravitate towards players in the Linux version. This requires PhysX and while it's not a game breaker early on, once you get farther into the game you'll be wishing they fixed that bug.

PhysX is now OpenSource and also implemented under linux. You would just have to update the PhysX to a more recent version.

Please also UPVOTE my questions to the community manager on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/4kg1x4/dungeon_defenders_for_linux_has_been_behind_on/d48ra5g

1. Will the gravity bug being fixed?
2. Will the version be equal to windows?
3. What happened to icculus?

4. Will DD2 come to Linux with proper (inhouse) support?

Same for me, I didn't have any serious problems with the port, and put some decent time in. It was a good time, I might try it again.

We played the main campaign through with 4 player local co-op, and had a great time with it. We had 3x360 controllers and M+K. The only thing you need to avoid is the SeriesEV character, because it causes the Linux version to crash randomly.

Well, looks like my tweet got through to them, trendy just "liked" it and then sent a message with icculus tagged to get in touch with them.
