The Linux-friendly Swedish developers are celebrating a million copies of Europa Universalis IV sold with a collection of traditional music that they’re giving away. Be sure to claim it before July 4th!

Midsummer is a big deal to the Swedes, as I can personally attest. There’s a lot of celebrations and bonfires, often amid nature, so it’s fitting that this latest music pack celebrates Scandinavia with modern arranges of 18th century music by famed poet Carl Michael Bellman. According to the official announcement, you should be able to claim the music pack at any time before July 4th. If you miss out, you’ll be able to purchase it at a later date.

This isn’t the first time Paradox Development Studios has given away free DLC for Europa Universalis IV and they’ve previously celebrated International Women’s Day with their Women in History DLC as well as the end-year holidays with a Yuletide carol.

You can grab the new music pack on Steam. I had to validate my game cache and download an update to get it working. Be sure to also check out my recent interview with PDS about supporting Linux. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

Paradox seems like a nice studio. This is a nice bonus, I think their support of Linux has really helped Linux gaming, and celebrating International Women's Day (an article I guess I missed) is really nice to hear about given the bad attitudes about women in gaming some loud gamers seem to have. I would like to play their games to support them, but the only game of theirs that I've tried (Crusader Kings) was too much for my puny brain! I guess I just need to try harder!

Paradox games don't have a learning curve, it's more of a learning cliff, but once you figure them out, they're terrific games. Unfortunately, Paradox has generally been terrible at explaining how to play their own games, but they're getting better! Each of their more recent games now has a comprehensive Wiki page that makes the learning process much easier than it used to be. Here's the one for Crusader Kings II:

I own Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, Stellaris, and Hearts of Iron IV, and any one of them can easily steal hours of my time.

I don't know Swedish so I can't understand the lyrics, but they're great-sounding songs all the same. They kind of remind me of some of Beethoven's Lieder. They should be a welcome departure from the normal EU IV music.

Thanks Mountain Man! Didn't actually know about the wikis. I'll have to give it another go with wiki assistance. Maybe it can help me overcome my puny brain.
