Today SteamOS has a new beta, which brings a much newer Nvidia driver to the table and a fresher build of the new AMD PRO driver.

The Nvidia driver is now 367.27 and AMD GPU PRO is now at RC2. The Nvidia driver was especially out of date, so to have both updated is really going to help it.

It also has a few updated packages for bugs and security fixes.

See the release notes here.

I am still hoping they do some major updates to SteamOS sometime soon. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I just bought a Zotac Nen on amazon. Beware of Amazon.com rewards visa with the $70 promotional credit. I put the necessary difference in amount that is left over after they approved me for the amazon rewards visa on to my account as a gift card balance and bought the Zotac Nen because they tell you that you can use your new card right away. NO YOU CAN'T I used the card for $483 when they gave me a $500 limit. I called them and they told me it got declined because the info did not match up on the card with my account but this is the opposite of what they in detail repeat several times in the instructions that you can use the card right away. So Chase security is who I got routed to and she is telling me to retry it, it will go through now. No it wont go through, once this happens it tells you on your account you have to use a desktop, you can no longer do it through your phone and guess what happens when you get home and take a look. They want the full info on the card assuming you have it in your hands so NO YOU CAN NOT USE IT RIGHT AWAY YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT AND ACTIVATE IT FIRST. Anyways they are supposedly overnighting me the card so I can finish the transaction. Should be using the ZOTAC next week and playing on steam OS.

ah damn, I misread that the same way I did before with the previous announcement - it is not about the stable release, but the beta release.

Any ideas when any of that will be stable? I am still stuck with the default 355 nvidia drivers, I do not want to put my system into beta mode (except for the steam client).

You have to install the steamos-beta-repo package and update. I would not, since it actually softbricked a bunch of folks on the main thread on Steam Universe.

Officially this GPU's : http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDGPU-PRO-Beta-Driver-for-Vulkan-Release-Notes.aspx
It also works with GCN 1.1 , you just have to enable kernel switch
With Linux kernel 4.8 GCN 1.1 GPU's are going to be officially supported and with GCN 1.0 will work but you will have to enable kernel switch.

So what is the solution?....because I just bought a Zotac Nen and it will be here in a week. I assume you can boot into recovery mode with steam OS as I have done when I tried to install it on this piece of crap old desktop amd x6 phenom 2 before I gave up. What do you guys mean by soft brick? Can you guys be more detailed? Tell us what happened, this is a forum. Should we have direct links to the steam OS forum threads here somewhere so that we do not make double threads on the same subject?
