I sincerely hope none of you pre-ordered Street Fighter V on the promise of the Linux version, as it has shown yet again how silly it is. Street Fighter V is now officially late.

The only word we had on the release was from Steam:
QuoteAttention Steam users and Street Fighter V players! Our development team is working closely with Valve engineers to bring the full Street Fighter V experience onto the SteamOS platform.

This will be a free update to all Street Fighter V Steam players and will be released this Spring. More news will be shared soon, so stay tuned.

That was back in February, so not only have we been given no new details ("soon"?), but the release window of Spring is officially behind us.

This is another port that was getting help from Valve, like Rocket League, Street Fighter V is now late. They have both joined our Unreleased Ports list on the Wiki (if we are missing some, add them!).

Why is it everything Valve touches gets delayed somehow? Are they really that unfocused?

Shame, wanted to play it myself, but it hasn't been reviewing well overall which is also a bit of a shame.

Sidenote: I know some of you don't like seeing the repeating message of delayed ports, but it's important to keep track. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Pre-ordering a digital product is simply loaning the company money. Sometimes with a worthless gift in return. It still baffles me why anybody would do that.

There were a few rare occasion where I would have considered it, but instead those companies chose to finish the game before asking for money.

I'd have waited for one more day until the Steam Summer Sale starts since there's a chance, albeit tiny, that it'll be released then alongside with a nice discount.

But yeah, general message as usual, never buy something on a promise. First it doesn't count as a Linux sale weakening the platform and second it might never get released..

I have little hope but may be it will also come with Linux/SteamOS support.

Beware that if you read this you might realise that there is now very little chance that HL3 ever come out.

Personnally I only very seldomly buy preorders. I did so for Cities Skylines and some other Paradox games, but recently that's all.

You can add TW Rome 2 and Project CARS

That's what I was looking for! Yep, Project CARS is the last game I ever preordered. I still had a windows partition at the time of ordering, but didn't by the time the game didn't get released (by which I mean Windows version got released).

I pre-ordered because I thought they had Linux in the beta even though nothing at all indicated there was a Linux client in the beta. I used the beta key and saw Linux wasn't there and now I can't return it because I technically "used" the beta key. I am an idiot, maybe this time I will learn my lesson.

I doubt they will release Linux any time soon, the game isn't even remotely close to finished. They might even abandon Linux all together because they don't seem to have the resources to complete it on the platforms they sold. In addition, it is selling lower than their expectations.

I think they ruined SF V by releasing a game early with features that only 10% of the users use for a tournament that 1% of the users heard of. I only want to play in Arcade mode and that won't even be in this month's release. Even if it was released on Linux, I wouldn't be playing it this month.

Given that the main Windows version was released with a lot of issues and some missing features (like story mode that was supposed to be released with the game), it's not really surprising that the Linux version is late too. I really wouldn't expect it quite some time after the game is actually finished on Windows.

Speaking of delayed - was there not suppossed to be info about what is happening about the Linux version of "Kindom Come: Deliverance" on the E3?
dmacofalltrades Jun 22, 2016
I learned my lesson about pre-ordering the hard way with Batman: Arkham Knight. Now I just wait until the game officially comes out. I won't believe SF V will come to Linux until I see the little logo in the Steam store...or if I read about the release here first :D.

You realise that game port was officially cancelled right?

If Valve is shifting focus away from SteamOS (in favor of VR), what makes you think developers and publishers are going to spend the extra effort if Valve is losing interest?

Maybe if Microsoft lock down Windows 10 and only allow distribution via their store and demand an unreasonable cut. Then developers might be interested! :P I doubt that'll happen though. There'll be an uprising with pitchforks if that happens!
