PAYDAY 2 and the franchise as a whole is now owned by the developers Starbreeze/OVERKILL and they are celebrating by removing the need to buy drills to open a safe.

From the update post:
QuoteThe PAYDAY franchise is ours again and to celebrate it, we’re giving away a community grenade, the skills tree and we’re making the black market free for everyone going forward.

They will carrying on supporting the game for another 18 months, so plenty of time for them to drag out more DLC content eh!

A pretty good decision, as the microtransactions angered a lot of people.

Watch the video at the top for the full info.

It also seems like PAYDAY 3 is going to happen, as it was directly mentioned on the official Starbreeze website:
QuoteFurthermore, 505 Games will retain a 33% revenue share of Starbreeze’s net revenues from future sales of PAYDAY 3 capped at 40 MUSD, and after Starbreeze has fully recouped its development and marketing costs.

I enjoy it and my machine can handle the graphics just fine, depends on specs but if you are on the lower end it might suffer a little graphically. I like getting a group of people I already know to rob banks with otherwise it's odd jumping online to play with a bunch of random people.

It does not run well. It often dipped to 45 FPS for me on Medium settings at 800x600 resolution with a GTX 780 Ti and an Intel Core i7-3770k.

I think you have other issues then, ~ 1440p all high with amd to boot and in the 70's +

I've had many people say the same thing, however neither me, nor my friends, nor my friends' friends have gotten it to run decently.

runs okay for me, but on some sections where there is heavy smoke it does slow down ( not drop frames )but im less bothered about that, its nice to get a constant 60fps but I can play at 45fps fairly okay too.

Never had any issue (60fps) on full settings 1080p with a GTX770 and i5 @3,4GHz

It's really fun to play with friends :-D

Cool, was interessted in this one, but the microtransactions really turned me down, and the COD/BF like unlock system bs. Is both gone? Or at least the microtransactions completly? Can pls someone, who has this game, report about the current state?

Thx

I had no time to play it since the last update (update number 100, a big one) so I can't confirm but the changelog says that they removed the microtransaction (it was added when they were bought by another company and now that they fully own Payday again they removed it so).

For the unlock system I had really no issue with it. When playing with friends it's really really fun no matter what stuff/skills you have, plus it's not that long to unlock all the basic things you could be needing. Sure you won't be able to jump into really high difficulty game at first because your character will be too weak but it isn't an issue for me.
