The PAYDAY 2 developers now own the franchise, ditching microtransactions, PAYDAY 3 looks like it's a thing

PAYDAY 2 and the franchise as a whole is now owned by the developers Starbreeze/OVERKILL and they are celebrating by removing the need to buy drills to open a safe.

From the update post:

QuoteThe PAYDAY franchise is ours again and to celebrate it, we’re giving away a community grenade, the skills tree and we’re making the black market free for everyone going forward.

They will carrying on supporting the game for another 18 months, so plenty of time for them to drag out more DLC content eh!

A pretty good decision, as the microtransactions angered a lot of people.

It also seems like PAYDAY 3 is going to happen, as it was directly mentioned on the official Starbreeze website:
