Valve announce over half a million Steam Controllers have been sold

I wonder how many of those are Linux users?

It looks good, Im a bit tempted to buy one of those, but I just want to connect and enjoy, not having to waste my time making it to work or whatever

More specifically, I wonder how many of them are attached to Steam Machines, which do not show in the hardware survey?
I wonder if Valve are actually playing their cards fairly close to their vest.

I have one, but most of my games don't work with it (or work poorly).
For instance, Broforce just doesn't work (but Xbox360 pad does work).

Also, TF2 still displays the keyboard shortcuts although I have the SteamController plugged in. It isn't really easy to learn games this way.

Do you have the same problems?

It's a nice controller but I'll wait for a the next version of it. It seems still under development ATM.

i have bought 2 of them :)
im not a controller person but i really like steam controller. i can control my desktop from distance which is super nice. also good for some local-coop gaming from the couch :P

edit: haven't had issues with the controller not working, but then again, i only play local-coop games like Battleblock theater, Never alone, Gang beasts and similar with them.

i use keyboard+mouse for the rest of the games and/or wheel for racing

Did you update the firmware and start the game from big picture mode?

I brought the Steam Controller shortly after the release and never regretted it. It's pretty amazing on decent indie platform games like Kingdom and Super Meat Boy for casual play and chill.

And since they do not sell it in Brazil, I cannot get one for a reasonable price...

I don't have Broforce, but I have not seen a game that would not work with Steam Controller yet. There are basically 3 modes of operation:

1. Gamepad -- works like an Xbox 360 controller.
2. Keyboard and mouse -- that's probably why you are seeing keyboard prompts.
3. Native -- the game knows it is a Stream Controller. Magicka 2 is one such game.

I would guess that you are having trouble because your udev rules are wrong. Try looking here (might be a bit out of date):

The software is improving yes, but the controller itself is quite solid. I don't think they will be releasing another controller for quite a while.

Is anyone play don't starve with this controller
I have issue with it. My mouse moving around the screen while I use the controller and also make mouse clicks while I press controller buttons

@Eike: Yep, I've updated my firmware, but it was a long time ago. And, on fedora at least, I can't use the SteamController if Steam is not in BigPicture mode.

@Linas: Thanks, I'll check that too! How do you change the operation mode? I just tried to dl the community layouts.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator don't detect Steam Controller like a Controller with official driver. It only can be configured like a keyboard, and of course analogical driving is impossible

Well, because of it I ditched the Xbox 360 controller.

As a advice if somebody has a game that don't detect it, maybe is caused by having a Xbox controller connected in the computer at same time as the Steam controller, because of this is necessary to disconnect the Xbox controller before starting the game and connect it again after the game launch, with this process the Xbox controller become the secondary and both usable.

I was going to wait until they came out with a 2nd iteration of the Steam controller with improvements, but the 30% discount is quite nice and pushed it low enough for me to consider buying one right now.

I have an old Logitech Rumblepad that I've been using for Grid Autosport, but some games just refuse to recognise it and they weren't games I felt like playing with a keyboard and mouse. Hmmm, will have to get on this.
