Controlling a party of adventurers, exploring dungeons and fighting weird magical creatures is an RPG tradition as old as the genre. Expect all that and more in this modern iteration of the classical dungeon crawler.

I have a soft spot for the old-school computer RPG – I wasted countless hours playing the Wizardry and The Bard’s Tale series when I was younger. Even if I don’t really have the time (or patience) to delve into long sessions of exploring endless dungeons anymore, it still makes me smile when I see that these types of games are being made. 7 Mages is now on Linux and joins the company of games such as Wizardry, The Legend of Grimrock and The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians on our platform of choice.

Key Features
  • A fantasy game reworking of the legendary movies Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven
  • 14 fantastic environments
  • More than 30 types of enemy, most of them bringing new elements into combat
  • Highly tactical turn-based combat with the option to split up your team
  • 60 combat, elemental and musical spells
  • Original puzzles on each new level

Now I don’t know exactly how a dungeon crawler can be a reworking of a classic samurai movie, but it must surely be a first in the genre.

You can grab 7 Mages on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

I won't dismiss it just because it's clearly a mobile port, though that doesn't fill me with confidence either. Hopefully the character progression systems are decent.

Iiiinnteresting. *strokes goatee*

No really, I do think it looks interesting. Could be brilliant even. Like Grimrock but without trying to be as faithful to the classics. And I don't exactly sport a goatee. Don't know whose beard I was stroking just now... or why.

It was probably mine, don't worry I have enough for everyone to stroke.
