Black Mesa is officially coming to Linux, and the developer confirmed so in a rather delightful way of shooting down an anti-Linux troll in the Steam forums.

You may or may not heard of a user who goes by the username "meraco" on Steam. He seems to be popping up all over Linux support posts on the Steam forum to spread anti-Linux sentiments, this time it was different.

After his usual derailing of a Linux support topic, the Black Mesa developer commented:
QuoteWhat are we arguing about? We're making a Linux port. We think it's totally worth it.

We built Linux and got errors (as we expected). They're not especially complex errors, but there are a lot of them. As soon as we get a stable build we'll push it to Steam for people to test.

It's good to get confirmation (and fantastic to see a troll get slapped down), as previously they were only evaluating a port, but now it is happening.

Note: The best way to shut a troll down is to post like they aren't even there. Don't quote them or reply to them, just keep posting your support of Linux versions.

Quoting: Al3sHow to not have heard of "meraco"? What a sad individual, I would love to have him doxxed.

He's steam level 0, so this is nothing more than a troll account with no games on it. He'd just create another and keep on doing what he's doing.

I personally just ignore trolls like this. I do not care, and as well as we won't influence a Developer much in his decision weather to port or not (because of our market share it's still rather an ideological question weather they want the game to be played by as many people or not - it's certainly in most cases no business decision), he will not have any impact with his comments anyway. I consider developers smart enough to make up their own mind, not caring for trolls like him.

Quoting: STiAThe will not have any impact with his comments anyway.

There's been a thread - which he proudly linked to prove whatever - which got shut down, express not for the "+1"s (which technically could be considered spam according to Steam's rules), but due to the derailed discussion - due to the trolling, that is.

Showing support for something is not spamming by the rules of Steam. Though, developers may shut down such topics if they don't consider porting the game (would sometimes be nicer if they commented on this though).

I agree with you about the spamming, though the rules explicitly name the "+1". And it's fine if the developers don't want to make a port and thus such a thread would be useless for everybody. But both was not the case here...

Am I only one who finds Meraco as entertainment?
I laugh every time I see him posting in linux threads, but whats makes me laugh harder is that those new ppl in internet keeps replying to him.

Would sit and drink beer with him/her, I bet my balls he/she is pretty fun guy in real life.

Well, I think meraco is a M$ evangelist... so I ignore him/her. No comment

No matter how terrible someone is, doxxing is not a thing that should ever be done to anyone. Don't think like this - be better.

They gotta be on the M$ payroll. Only group of people I don't think are are the EA fanboys that protect EA at all costs.

Nah, I think he is a higher level but his account is just private which makes him look like a lvl0 with no games.
