I'm not sure if this means both Overlord and Overlord 2 which VP is working on, as it only mentions Overlord, but they could mean both titles. It's a very cheap game, at only £3.99 on Steam right now with a very positive reception.

Since it's a rather old game, I'm sure VP's porting method is well suited to it.

Prepare to be tempted, mesmerized and thrilled, become the Overlord, how corrupt you become depends on how you handle any given situation. Your actions impact the game world. With incredible power at your disposal and a team of evil minded minions to do your evil bidding, how will you resist the temptation to be incredibly despotic? THINK EVIL, BREED EVIL, CONTROL ALL! Steam info is likely not wrong, but unable to inform you about all details of a porting contract. Feral acting as a publisher doesn't automatically mean they have the decision powers.

Uhm... so unknown game i have never heard off gets a linux release. But users bitching abou Witcher 1 for linux are ignored. Even if VP alredy have Witcher1 eOn port on Mac.. Maybe if they would cooperate with CDR and include also community mods like Rise of the White Wolf or HD texturen mod, it would sell 10 times more than some unknown Overlord 1+2.. but okay. Let´s not be greatefull..

Sometimes ago, I asked on vp github bugreport topic about possible porting The Witcher 1 (original - "Wiedźmin") to Linux. One from VP reply to me some like this "if you want witcher 1, please ask CDPRed". So they can't to much in this question I think even if they working on Witcher 1 for mac (first mac version is made in WINE after that they swith it and now use eON for TW1 for Mac).

Yep. Many aspyr and feral ports are made with self publishing. So they buy rights to develop linux and mac ports and next they self poblishing it and gets all linux/mac sale for self (or only part for it, depends on agreement).

Other porters like Icculus or other one person porters make ports for "asking" company. For example, Runic Games (developer and publisher) asking ported Edward Rudd if he could port Torchlight 1/2 to Linux for some money. He agree. He porting and gives Runic games his port, and Runic take him some money and Runic publish this port.

I think in this case, probably Virtual Programmin do the same as single porter. If I good remember, VP guys once time spoke about it, he mentioned that most of VP ports is made to order.

If Overlord works well in Linux that's one less reason for me to keep my Windows partition.

Indeed, likely just a delay to get direct sales.

If only Lego games were ported I would look into a steambox
As strange as it might sound, the one game I miss the most since giving Windows the old heave-ho last year is LEGO The Lord of the Rings.

I was never really interested in playing the Lego games on PC. I've always played them together with a friend on the PlayStation. But when Lego Harry Potter -- which I consider one of the best in the series -- hit GOG.com I picked them up immediately. The game works great through Wine.

Would be fantastic to have them ported to Linux though- without Steam. ;-)

funny thing is I've owned these games (overlord, overlord: raising hell, and overlord II) from a bundle i bought a few years ago, it was back when i still had a windows partition. one of my close friends knew one of the developers of this game personally. I felt bad for not playing them, but hey... maybe I will soon :P

Five years ago, back in my dual-boot days, I bought it, (still in my Steam library) and expect to see it appear in my Linux library Real Soon Now. Having played it, it's not really my cuppa, but I should give it another try, I suppose. Hardly a AAA game, it's still pretty unlike most everything I can think of. BBB, maybe?

So this game is a third-person action RPG? Is it similar to something better known?

I guess some here don't know it, but Overlord is a very well-known popular game. It is sort-of an RPG, but not quite. The main gameplay hook has you commanding an army of minions to do your bidding, but not in the way one might command RTS troops. It's more a "point there, attack that" sort of deal. And it thrives on humour with the lead writer being none other than Rhianna Pratchett.

only trough deliver2? it could be more profitable for them like that, we will see as i'm surely not re-buying it.

There is a real lack of communication on VP on this one, the first one it has really been needed. If you buy it at deliver.com do you get a steam key? Will existing owners get it without repurchasing? How long will it be only at deliver.com. I own Overlord but not raising hell, I would buy it from deliver.com but I want to get a steam key. Also their site says all content delivered through deliver2mac client, but this is a Linux game. Some clarification would be nice of how this is supposed to work. I'll be contacting them for clarification.

Hi,

We are selling Overlord from Deliver2 only at the current time. There is no Steam key provided as it is a direct download. I cannot answer how long it will be only on Deliver2 site, that would be a decision for the sales team.

VP has two revenue streams when it ports games. If it is directly for the original publishers, the revenue is fixed and the publisher makes the decision where it is sold. However, some games are only available if VP covers all costs to bring the game to market, and unfortunately that can mean zero revenue for the version we make if it is sold on Steam. Steam do not split sku's and obviously we cannot release games for free.

The note regarding Deliver2Mac was an error on the site which should now be corrected.

The support page will now be updated also.

Regards.

Then,

Just to confirm, we are going to make the game available on Steam shortly... we will make this announcement soon.

THAT is my kind of Linux port; DRMFREE and totally backed by the porter.
Take note, Eddie.

One more thing:
Is this port english only or multilanguage?
