Updates will be listed at the bottom as I go.

Since I am sick with Tonsillitis I decided to take a quick break from news and work on something else. Today I have updated the User Statistics Page and here's what's new.

Three new Linux Distributions join the ranks:
- PCLinuxOS
- Netrunner
- ZorinOS

So we now have a choice of 25 different distributions. We have 339 people who claim their Distribution is "Not Listed", so it would be good if you could check and let me know if yours is still missing and if not, select it to help us get accurate stats.

Also, I have implemented an expandable full details box (click it) for a full list with percentages and total users. So now the graphs are a "Top 10" and the expandable box will have more info. This is something that was requested before, so I was happy to add it in.

Now, what else what you guys like this page to display? I'm keen to make it as useful as possible for you guys!

I've also done a bunch of back-end work towards having the ability to select the date of the graphs you want to see, so in future there will be a dropdown box or something for say "july 2016, august 2016, sep..." you get the idea.

Visit the User Statistics page for the fresh stats right now: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/users/statistics

Updates
Okay, so now the RAM and Resolution graphs work properly again, those are the two that use natural number sorting, rather than highest to lowest like all the others.

I have now also enabled the javascript for the graphs, so hovering over a bar will now give you the percentage. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I just realized that it would be interesting to hear more about the reasoning behind these statistics. What is their purpose? Why is it important that we collect this information? Who are they for (users, developers, etc)? How can they help improve Linux as a gaming platform? If it would be possible to write an article on this subject I would love to read it! Maybe such an article could also help motivate more people to provide their information.

Also, I love the inclusion of percentages when hovering over the bars. Very fancy! ^^

Reasoning: Personal interest. I spoke to others before doing it who thought it would be cool to see, so I did it. Nothing more.

How can it help? Well, developers have another avenue to see what people are mostly running.

I had gotten the impression that there was more to it, seems like I was wrong :P. But thanks for the answer!

Hey Liam good job! it's definitely cool to see all these infos :)

As I'm using a Window Manager only and probably won't use a DE for a long time, it would be cool to have some of them listed and to be selected only when "Windows Manager Only" is selected.

In that case it would be also cool if it appears instead of Desktop Environment when clicking "View Pc Info".

Last thing, a dedicated box for them would be great on user statistic page, just after the desktop environment

get well soon!

BunsenLabs is still not on the list.

Very nice work on the graphs. Shouldn't all *ubuntu and Ubuntu-* just be merged into "Ubuntu"? After all, that's what the DE section is for, right? It makes the graph look like Ubuntu has 200+ fewer people using it than it actually does, which is a large portion of the sample size.

I'm agreeing with this.

Very nice work, but I miss something:

Please add the following questions:
"Windows VM for Gaming?" with options "No", "Yes", "Yes, with dedicated graphics"
"Do you use Wine for gaming?" with options "No", "Yes"

Some questions about intel-cpus (e.g. SandyBridge, SandyBridge-E, IvyBridge, IvyBridge-E, Haswell, Haswell-E, Broadwell, Broadwell-E, Skylake, KabyLake, ...) and motherboard vendors would also be nice. Same thing about gpu-families (nvidia: maxwell, pascal, ...; amd: SouthernIslands, VolcanicIslands, PirateIslands, Polaris, ...)
