Satellite Reign is the visually stunning spiritual successor to syndicate and it now has a released co-op mode, along with a hefty 50% off sale.

From their update post:
QuoteWe've updated the main branch with the co-op build of Satellite Reign, so now everyone will have access be default! We're not "officially" launching until the end of the week, but we wanted to get a few days of it being tested by everyone, now that we've addressed the most critical issues.

First thing you'll notice, is you'll be greeted with a choice between Singleplayer and Multiplayer. To play co-op, simply select Multiplayer, and either load up your own existing save as a host, or join someone else as a client

You can see my original impressions of the game here.

I haven't been able to try the co-op mode. It is basically the same game, but with friends controlling people with you.

You can get the game on both Steam and GOG, but I'm unsure if GOG has this new build yet (GOG has no easy way to see on a store page if a game has been updated). Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I was on the kickstarter for this game, and it's awesome. The developers weren't sure they were ever going to be able to add in multiplayer, so it wasn't even one of their stretch goals. It's great to see they're obviously doing well with this game, if they're adding in such a huge thing.

Is it local or online co-op? It reads as online, but I would really like it to be local, and the screenshot looks like a local co-op game.
Of course, it would be great if it was both :)

It looks like it's online. It's a click-to-move real-time strategy, so I think it would be pretty difficult to do local co-op.

This would be epic if it was local co-op / split screen. I don't think they've added that (yet?). My brother and I play a lot of local co-op using my Link, though there are definite issues with it (like delayed sound, that eventually dies out in Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition).

I still recall staying up late at night (so late we got goofy) on Syndicate Wars, and we had found out somehow the cheat code, which is hilariously 'pooslice'. We giggled about that for months, and to this day if I say pooslice to him, he bursts out laughing.

It has both local and online coop. I picked it up and played it a little earlier. I was playing online coop with a friend - so I know cross-platform multiplayer works. There were several games in the server browser. I didn't try local multiplayer myself, but I'm pretty sure I saw it there. Plus the Steam store page lists local coop as a feature.

EDIT: By local multiplayer, they mean LAN connection.
