Update: It now seems to be live, I was able to download it and play it.
Sadly, it crashes to the desktop right after the intro for me every time.
Here's the password and link to the support forum:

The Stardew Valley developer tweeted out a password for a beta, but after discussing it with them on their forum I was able to show them that we can't actually access it yet.
While what I was telling them may not have been entirely correct (SteamDB is confusing), the main point I made was correct. Normal keys are not able to access the beta yet, but beta/developer keys can, as it's not currently set for Linux/Mac as a platform for us.
Hopefully it won't take them long to sort out. I hope even more that it's not too full of issues, as giving a beta less than a week before release is not a long time to polish.
Not to be too snarky, but if they went with Ethan Lee (the Linux/Mac game porter), stuff like this wouldn't have been an issue. I'm still a bit sour they didn't choose him for it as he already had a proof of concept, but oh well. I can't have everything! Imagine if this happened on the release day though, I can imagine a lot of frustrated people.
Tired after work and blood pressure medication. Nap time. Will test later.
Load the save it made, crash to desktop.
Good start.
Guess I don't get to play it tonight then!
fine for me.
Made a new game, checked the skip into, start -> crash to desktop.

The Windows version occasionally has the same problem for me in wine. Closing the game and restarting it usually fixes it. I thought it was a wine bug, but maybe there's a bug in the game itself.
Well, good job they are doing a beta, went through the whole intro, crash to desktop.

That's weird. I loaded a save I'd made from Windows, wandered around for a few minutes, and said "Huh, it works".
This was on my laptop with older graphics drivers (nvidia-340xx), so..... I dunno?
The good thing about Linux is that usually someone manages to figure out why and post a workaround before the devs actually fix it. Say maybe someone will figure it out here too. Although tonight may not work anymore. ;)
America is a place, you know :P
I'm getting the same crashes as Liam, guess it has something to do with the version of Mono available in Ubuntu 16.04.
Quite possible. I'm running on Arch Linux 64-bit. It seemed to work on both my desktop and my laptop.
Some have suggested updating libraries in games with issues with the ones from his fnalibs.tar.bz2 archive.
The music is very calming and also the game kinda reminds me my childhood days back in the village. <3
On Manjaro is playing fine as well , no problems at all :)

A few months ago i would of said Manjaro was a notch lower than Mint for gaming, now using cinnamon manjaro it for me at least it's better all round.
I don't get something. How can i switch to Linux Beta, if i first cannot download the game because it's Windows only ? I need to buy the game for Windows, then switch to Beta ? But then, it counts as a Windows purchase, right ?
Anyway, it seems to be working fine for me.
Hello,It has a Linux version even if its a beta, they will be able to see the Linux sales of course.
