As promised the System Shock Pre-Alpha Demo is now available on Linux due to demand for it and closing in on the Linux + Mac stretch goal.
They are doing it for Linux first as it has seen much more demand over a Mac version. As always, we are a very loud bunch.
See their announcement on it here. They say you need to install some audio library manually, but it worked for me without it.
At the time of writing they are about $63,670 away from hitting the Linux + Mac stretch goal. According to Kicktraq, at the current pledging level they will hit around $1.6 million so it looks like they will easily hit the goal.
I tested the Demo and it does seem to run fine on my PC, and wow it really does look good! It does have one issue where the sound will screw up and be distorted if you try to alt+tab. A minor issue considering this is really early stuff.
You can download the demo on Steam (scroll down to the download image/button), but it looks like the Linux demo is not up on GOG or Humble Store yet.

Microsoft is also one of the top contributors to the Linux kernel - so better hop onto BSD if you want to escape. ;)
(it's mostly stuff to aid Linux on their cloud platforms, but still - Microsoft code in the kernel)

Yes it is and their contributions are written in C language, using some GNU extensions and kernel API; their contributions where in staging for long time and they almost got ditched by Linus because Microsoft programmers didnt want to program by Linux kernel guidelines, it would be nice for Linux gamers to have same high standards as Linus has for kernel code.
Decision to support and propagate Unity games and engine is bad from Linux user standpoint because engine is bad on Linux, development tools are all on Windows, it uses Microsoft language and Microsoft API (.Net/D3D as first class citizens), and Im pretty sure that they are going to get bought by a Microsoft very soon, and when that happens, MS will sabotage Unity on Linux in every way possible.

Ok, I put my $30 support in for this, pretty sure they can make that stretch goal. I liked the fact they made it a priority stretch goal instead of doing what other companies do, that is putting it at 500k-1m WAY down the stretch-list making it almost impossible to achieve. Thumbs-up for System Shock fellas for not doing that!

Unity engine has gotta allot better for under Linux, it does have active support unlike other game engines that get once off patches and everyone has to cope (looking at Unreal engine, and whatever CoH2 uses)
