A new video has popped up from one of the developer livestreams for Tyranny, which is the big new RPG from Paradox and Obsidian. It looks great!

I really hope that combat isn't as messy as it is in Pillars, that was really annoying.

About the game
In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over – and the forces of evil, led by Kyros the Overlord, have won. The Overlord’s merciless armies dominate the face of the world, and its denizens must find their new roles within the war-torn realm. Players interact with the populace to inspire loyalty, disgust, or fear as they roam the world as an officer in Kyros’ forces, empowered to act as both judge and executioner. Why did you find it messy? Because of the real time?
I've been playing the Baldur's Gate series since forever and I felt right at home with Pillars' combat. The first thing to do though is set up autopause rules, f.e. when an enemy is sighted, dies etc.
It just felt weird, hard to explain it properly. To me having so many characters around, all happening in real time with having to pause to give commands and study the battle, it just felt like a mess.

I do need to give it another try sometime soon though.

Combat was a nightmare for me as well. But it seems that around the first or second DLC they released a patch that provided AI for the companions so that you don't need to babysit them any longer. I gave it another go recently and this time I am really enjoying it.
Yeah that was what I was waiting for to give it a proper go again, and I have been planning to. So my thoughts are probably a little out of date right now.

It looks like combat will be real time with pause, just like POE.

Need a beer to watch this relaxed enough and not getting over-excited, but I like the first two minutes.

Getting a beer now :D.

Which is the coolest thing ever. I think DA:O on Nightmare at the endboss of "The Golems of Amgarrak" playing a arcane warrior/blood mage char was the first time I made use of the feature in any game. Wasn't even necessary on hard levels of PoE, though, never played the hardest there (yet), that's the next task.

According to that video, they have a release date, but Paradox wants to keep it secret for now. The only thing the general public knows is that it's going to be 2016. Paradox will apparently do some publicity stuff once the actual date gets nearer or something.

I have confidence in it being a good game but I hope the Linux version is better optimized than POE.

Graphically it looks totally awesome... But why oh why do all RPGs have that same fantasy setting? Like, every single one of them? They look like friggin' CLONES! Why can't we ROLEPLAY something else for a change?

Doesn't even diehard fantasy fans get tired of this sometime?

... Still gonna buy it though.

They don't? Most of RPGs have different fantasy setting?

Playing through Pillars right now and really enjoying it, just added both DLCs. I really struggled with the combat in pillars to begin with due to how busy it is. Once I got my positioning right things were a lot easier.

This game looks really awesome and I am super excited now, damn you Liam for showing me this haha!
