Right after the bad news about Cossacks 3 being delayed, we have some nicer news. Virtual Programming are teasing the Linux port of Overlord in a new video.

They also did a previous video here, where it stated it was coming very soon.

The video isn't exactly inspiring though, no actual gameplay shown and a lot of it is logos.

Their porting has improved for sure, but they still have some ways to go. Some of VP's ports are really bad for me. Arma 3 for example refuses to use any textures above Low, and 99% of the time it's the only option I can pick and they have no idea what's causing it. Their Saints Row ports are also not great with all the stuttering, so I am hoping they continue to improve their porting method. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The Witcher 2 work very well with mesa drivers. Performance is very good. Stable.

Spec Ops: The Line was crash happy and has low performance. Newer mesa drivers run it like TW2, though.

Bioshock Infinity still plays bad here, especially in open areas. Needs more driver work.

The good side is all of then are stable and recognize my XBone controller. I think only one Aspyr port I have (Super Meat Boy) work with it. Feral ports are fine.

The real downside of all these "porthouses" is that none of then give a crap about Surround Sound. Actually, very few ports have 5.1 sound (I'm looking at you Valve). I can remember now only Euro/American Truck Simulator and Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

Quoting: liamdaweI have tried everything, trust me. Even if I managed to get it on Ultra by fiddling so it appears, it will show for a moment and then revert down to Low again.
Yes, but it doesn't matter what you see in the menu, (it will still show Low/Standard/Whatever), ignore that.
Like I said, once you applied Ultra from "Overall Quality" despite what is displayed in the menus the Ultra setting will be written to the config file, and that's what matters.
If you want to make sure, set everything as you want and then edit manually the config file with:
Low = 0
Standard = 1
High = 2
VeryHigh = 3
Ultra = 4
Like I have already explained, no matter the setting it will revert down to Low. I can see it with my own eyes when textures change.
Well, that's weird...
When the textures are changing by themselves, the config file is altered as well (from 4 to 2 etc) ? Maybe you could edit it as you wish and make it read only?
Anyway, the game/port itself can use Ultra textures, that's for sure, why doesn't work for you is a mystery.
Here are all texture settings and the differences between them (concentrate on that small billboard on the left):

The settings were applied from the game menus like described above.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPL- The Witcher 2 - after release have many bugs and low performance, after one or two patches it work fine for me even on old notebook with radeon gpu and fglrx driver. Now this game working almost with the same performance as on Windows.

I can not confirm this. I installed it on Windows and Linux, and the Windows version is performing a lot better for me (GTX 760, i7-2600, 3.4ghz). This PC was originally bought when TW2 was released to be able to play it (no joke :D). Upgraded the graphics card since back then (550 to 760).

But true is, it is a lot better and definitely playable now. 2nd patch was the hit for me to call it "playable".

Not my video, but it shows what it should be show.

Results may vary depending on the system, model gpu, drivers, graphical environment or the settings of the game.

After VP released TW2 a lot of us complained and a few of us stuck in contact with them both in their bug tracker and privately and helped them fix up performance beyond the occasional stutter. Since then I haven't had any trouble with their ports to the point that I wouldn't mind if they ended up being given the job of porting TW3, assuming their wrapper is becoming advanced enough to support the full range of graphical effects.

Also I would encourage anyone having trouble with a Feral port to keep in touch with them as they are often able to suggest fixes or hook you into testing branches to get a better handle on things.
