Woah! Holy Sh...Deus Ex: Mankind Divided looks like it may be getting a Linux & SteamOS release which has literally blown my tiny little mind.

There's a rather large bit of info here on SteamDB, where you can see stuff like this:
Quotelaunch/9/config/oslist: linux
launch/9/executable: DeusExMD.sh
launch/9/type: none

And this:
Quote337001/encryptedmanifests/domesticated_mac_linux_sync/encrypted_gid_2: 973A3491BA8BBFE16CAF17F204300E1B

Obviously no word on a release date and this is not confirmed anywhere. It's good supporting evidence though.

Reminder: We have seen Linux pop up on SteamDB before and a port never happened. Just something to keep in mind.

Exciting either way though, as the game is being very well reviewed all around from what I can see. I actually played and finished the one directly before this and loved it. You can bet I will play the crap out of it if/when it's released for us.

About the game
The year is 2029, and mechanically augmented humans have now been deemed outcasts, living a life of complete and total segregation from the rest of society.

Now an experienced covert operative, Adam Jensen is forced to operate in a world that has grown to despise his kind. Armed with a new arsenal of state-of-the-art weapons and augmentations, he must choose the right approach, along with who to trust, in order to unravel a vast worldwide conspiracy. Pretty interesting, but a pity it's Square Enix. Low chances of it coming out DRM-free.

I wouldn't completely dismiss it, seeing as they had Feral port Tomb Raider and Life is Strange.

I am in total disbelief!

mmmm, not convinced , It uses the Denuvo DRM I belive. Thought that wasn't cross platform.

Sincerely hope I'm wrong though !

Maybe they just care less when it comes to Mac/Linux releases. Having those without Denuvo is not likely to get Windows users to install a different OS just to pirate that it.

Also, DRM is most useful for the first month or so. After that, the sales peak has gone anyway. I doubt we'll get it that soon anyway.

What if that is the masterplan to convert some of the windows gamers to Linux? OS X is much harder to install on an average PC so Linux looks like an obvious choice...

looks like the depots are available for mac and linux with english, french, german, italian, japanese and portugese languages.

keep in mind, people playing on Windows have been complaining about performance, so this will most likely require a mid-high to high end system to run well.

Oh man, this really can't be. I might have to upgrade my computer sooner than I though, if only for this.

I also hope they port HR, but that's a bit doubtfull. I guess I will have to finish this one on Windows, for once.

I'm really glad this is coming to Linux. Like i've said before, i played the first and initially didn't intend to continue with this title because it was thought to be Windows only.

But now, i'm going to pick it up on release day if it releases properly.

I can only hope Square Enix Japan also decides to follow the same route with some of their games in future.

That would be really huge. I have to tell my wife to hide my wallet <not>!

Though, often that's just tests they're doing, which get published with the rest on SteamDB, but never actually get released. Like engine tests for SteamOS/other platforms.

Though, Deus Ex is one of my favourite sequels, that would be HUGE .. for me.

...Feral spotted... lol
You guys are so predictable. :P

Oh that's ... a really good find.

Though, no official note they are allowed to release on Linux. But that's certainly a good find.
The Steam reviews for this game are tanking a bit so the game developers will probably try to do some overhauls to satisfy player base before putting legitimate effort into a mac/linux port. IF this does get a linux port my guess is it's well down the road.
Keyrock 23 Aug 2016
Oh please please please let this be true. As an added bonus, by the time a Linux port arrives (if it arrives) maybe there will be a GotY edition available and we won't have to get gouged on the hilariously overpriced season pass.

Now, this is an automatic purchase for me as soon as they release on penguin computers. Can't wait to be a slave to the new black gold.

Whilst I am very excited about the possibly of a Linux release of this game, there are some interesting comments on the DE:MD Steam forum about one-shot microtransactions!

Can I make a request for sli.mg support? When I try to link its images with bb code nothing shows.

Feral did the Mac port of Human Revolution back when a GNU/Linux port wasn't an option, so I don't find this news all that surprising. It is awesome though. ;)

I haven't played Human Revolution, but I do have it in my Steam library. Seems to work under Wine, so I might give that a go in anticipation of Mankind Divided getting a GNU/Linux release.
Mblackwell 24 Aug 2016
Feral is definitely doing this one (it's not in-house at SE). Without an announcement I'm sure they can't confirm or deny it however, and who knows when the actual release will be.

Anyway, two things: Human Revolution did run fine under Wine last time I tried it although that was ages ago and it's quite good. Surprisingly the Wii U version is really fun because of the GamePad. Probably my favorite version of the game. It's worth playing if you are willing to part with the cash for a Windows game.

The other thing is that reports of low performance in Mankind Divided seem a bit... overblown? There's a few key settings you can lower or disable with not much graphical difference that will drastically improve framerates. And the game itself seems to look great on the LOW preset.
