Woah! Holy Sh...Deus Ex: Mankind Divided looks like it may be getting a Linux & SteamOS release which has literally blown my tiny little mind.

There's a rather large bit of info here on SteamDB, where you can see stuff like this:
Quotelaunch/9/config/oslist: linux
launch/9/executable: DeusExMD.sh
launch/9/type: none

And this:
Quote337001/encryptedmanifests/domesticated_mac_linux_sync/encrypted_gid_2: 973A3491BA8BBFE16CAF17F204300E1B

Obviously no word on a release date and this is not confirmed anywhere. It's good supporting evidence though.

Reminder: We have seen Linux pop up on SteamDB before and a port never happened. Just something to keep in mind.

Exciting either way though, as the game is being very well reviewed all around from what I can see. I actually played and finished the one directly before this and loved it. You can bet I will play the crap out of it if/when it's released for us.

About the game
The year is 2029, and mechanically augmented humans have now been deemed outcasts, living a life of complete and total segregation from the rest of society.

Now an experienced covert operative, Adam Jensen is forced to operate in a world that has grown to despise his kind. Armed with a new arsenal of state-of-the-art weapons and augmentations, he must choose the right approach, along with who to trust, in order to unravel a vast worldwide conspiracy. Instabuy for me for full retail price on Steam if Linux version will come.
With Windows only version I'll wait for "special g2a sold out edition"

I don't have any to hand and don't fancy trawling months of Facebook, as if I did I can tell you now I would have a lot more posts here on GOL for Feral, but I don't consider Feral telling people they are taking port request feedback as news. Of course they are.

General port requests are one thing, that's just chitchatter. But here they did a specific one for Deus Ex, as you see if you follow the link to Facebook.

I do believe I've seen it on other titles too - I'm quite sure of it - but it's not very common. Hence it'd be really interesting to see what other titles they did these specific posts on.

If anyone recalls?

Whilst I am very excited about the possibly of a Linux release of this game, there are some interesting comments on the DE:MD Steam forum about one-shot microtransactions!

Reviews are turning into an outrage: DLC, regardless if bought after release or as a preorder bonus, only work for the play-through they are activated on, not on other play-throughs. There is an in-game shop to buy items like praxis kits and to enable two otherwise inaccessible augmentations. Those purchases are of course limited to your current game as well, not new games you start afterwards or have started otherwise.

Mouse acceleration cannot be turned off in the game, just as motion blur cannot be disabled (but you can at least turn it down). There are also reports that there are gfx options that make the game crash on cards with less than 6GB RAM. And while Square Enix recommends playing in windowed mode to lessen the chance of crashes in the train station, they contradict this advise by telling everyone to play in 1980x1080 resolution at full screen to counter performance issues.

So I guess we should hope that some of those issues get sorted by porting. Or that some features (like the shop for example ;) ) prove impossible to port, so they are cut from the Linux release. Or we should wait for the GOTY version to give them time to fix the most broken parts first.

Erk, do not want.

Oh man I hope they haven't broken an otherwise great game with microtransactions... If so I will never forgive Square Enix!

Small tip: Giveaway here, if you're interested.

From what I read, on the Feral Facebook page, Grid Autosports, Batman Arkham Knight (that was droped for reasons out of Feral's control) and Company of Heroes are all coming from the requestinator.

There is hope for Deus Ex... :)

Depth Charge would be a good match for the whole Bioshock Remastered edition that's coming September 13.

That would be nice too!

Yes and no. The microtransactions apparently don't apply to the main game but just a weird "assault" mode that apparently is just kind of crappy in general (so, yes microtransactions but most people probably won't notice or care). However if you got the pre-order DLC all of the consumables (praxis kits, ammo, health, etc) are one time use only. You keep the preorder weapons across saves/new games but only your first playthrough in which you redeemed the DLC gets the consumables. And that's just terrible. Both silly and terrible.

Because, come on, there will definitely be hacks and trainers and such for this game at some point. What's the benefit to Square Enix? Someone isn't going to buy the DLC again.

I wonder where it stores that consumables are consumed information. If it's local, then a thorough delete can give you another shot (which would likely result in easy to use tools). I fear it's the server based kind though. Since it needs that for its microtransaction (and drm) stuff anyway.

If only people were smart enough to NOT spend any money in the store, then that crap would die a quick death.

Thanks a lot for that clarification!

Before Square Enix is thinking about a SteamOS-/Linux-Version of "DeusEx Mankind Dvided" , they should port the predecessor "Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut" first.

I think they should release this one first, officially, because it already runs, albeit badly:

"Deus Ex The Fall", uses Unity 4.3.4f1, needs LD_LIBRARY_PATH for libsteam.api.so; Wwise sound engine wrong version, playable
TacoDeBoss Aug 27, 2016
Well doesn't look like history will repeat itself.

'Deus Ex' was the game Loki Software was in the middle of porting to Linux before they went bankrupt back in 2001.

So.. My favorite game in the world could have been on Linux. Why is this world so unfair? :(
Krogash86 Aug 28, 2016
I want to play this game on Linux omg instant buy if they release it
cxpher@gmail.com Aug 28, 2016
The world is no longer being unfair. In fact, fairness is what's driving the gaming platform on Linux today.

We just need more people to realize that Windows alone isn't the answer. To be fair to Microsoft as well, multi-platform is the way to go.

The fact that the usage is rising when more games are coming onboard shows that it's as viable a platform as any.

Any most MS users today.. they'll say, oh if it can play this game, i'd love to switch. And that's becoming a reality.

And for development. Hands down. Python will just be there and all the environment variables set. Windows, i have to do all that shit myself.

Let's clarify something - How do you run Deus Ex: HR on Linux?

EDIT: Ok, I guess you were talking about Deus Ex: The Fall. I had no idea such a game exists.

I'm a big fan of Deux Ex, nice.
Instant buy if its rly coming to Linux :)

Well... nice fairytale :) But since this game is more demanding than Batman Arkham Knight (fixed long time ago), realistically i don´t see posibility for this game to come to Linux. You must have quite powerful GPU. Even GTX 970 is barely usable on Windows and Linux port will degrade performance 40-50% so you will need GTX 1080 to play this on "High" preset at 1080p @ 40-50 FPS on Linux. So how many Linux gamers have latest, high-end rig? This port would make no sence financially, but the same applies for Mac port with their laughable laptop-grade GPU´s and yet, they still have better games. So if they want to do it, they will need to degrade graphics greatly. Feral and Aspyr should port their older games to Linux. Older Deus EX HR-DC, Batman games, Bioshock 1+2 or Rage.. and then they can reconsider Arkam Knight and maybe Mankind Divided, when it is fixed and complete edition out, sometimes next year..

I have a lot more faith than you do.

I agree 100000000000%

But maybe this is an inhouse port made by Eidos itself and not by a third company...
