Ethan Lee is at it again, the hit indie platformer FEZ has released the big 1.2 update that ditches MonoGame for FNA.
Ethan told me directly that he worked on it himself along with Renaud the main FEZ programmer.
In addition to now using FNA it also now uses SDL to drop the need for OpenTK, switch audio library for better CPU performance, uses SDL2 for gamepads, smoother rendering for different refresh rates, no more letterboxing or pillarboxing and more.
Also interesting is that OpenGL calls are now done on a single thread to avoid driver-specific issues and crashes during loading. Another one for Linux is that they added PS4 light bar support for us.
See the release announcement here. Ethan also did his own post about it on G+.
The update for FEZ is now live on Steam.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: EhvisQuoting: emphyQuoting: grenadecxCool thing, but I've no respect for Phil Fish after his opinion about streaming content.
Anyone not following, here's an article about it:
Fez Creator Phil Fish: YouTubers Should Pay Game Devs "Huge Portion" of Revenue
I know he is not the one porting it, but still, I suppose he gets revenue somewhere along the line.
Meh, as long as doesn't go around dmca-ing videos I couldn't care less...
If you think about it, it is actually interesting that people are allowed to put a game front to back on youtube or twitch without the consent of the creator. I'd imagine most would have no problem with it due to the exposure that it creates. But maybe form some primarily story driven games this would not be so good.
Actually, the allowed part is an assumption. I don't recall this ever having been tested. If this is actually challenged in court and ruled in favor of the creators, it could require youtubers and streamers to request approval.
I don't think that even big firms such as EA would open that can of backlash by begin to sue streamers. Regarding Phil Fish, he most certainly have some form of disorder so for me I just ignore his rants and enjoys his games.

Same hope here (so far it's not updated). As I understand FNA is not tied to steam (?), so there should be some hope, even more as it's also on GOG :)

Quote. @flibitijibibo and I just sent Windows, OS X and Linux builds to GOG and Humble for FEZ 1.12. Coming live in the near future!
That's awesome news, so finally Fez will get the Linux version on GOG. Keep em coming!
Just had a look on GOG and my library: No Linux-version and GOG removed the Linux-version as always. Comments from support? As always they cannot say when or even if a version for another platform will be released. Look on Humblebundle? The version arrived. :)
