Planet Nomads looks like the survival game to really get me interested in the genre, the developers emailed in to let me know that the game is coming to Linux and will release in alpha form this month on the 25th of August.
Note: It will currently be limited to alpha backers only, with Early Access due sometime in Spring next year.
From their email to me:

You can also see public confirmation in their news post here.
I should be getting a key from the developer to check it out, very excited!
Features
- Creation, survival and exploration are equally important
- Planet Nomads supports lego-style building on a large scale
- Building a spaceship capable of interplanetary travel is the first end goal
- Procedurally generated strange worlds with intricate biomes
- Open design - to easy add new mechanics and features as the game grows
About the game
Planet Nomads is a sandbox game of survival through building. As a lone scientist crash-landing on a beautiful, but unforgiving alien planet, your wit and craftiness will determine your fate in the upcoming days. Salvage all you can from the shipwreck and build something useful. A shelter for protection against the elements and curious creatures. A vehicle to expand your reach. When you've covered your basic survival needs, start a journey towards those strange monuments shining on the horizon, explore lairs of dangerous beasts and discover places with rare materials. All in the pursuit of building a spaceship that will take you to other planets.
Note: It will currently be limited to alpha backers only, with Early Access due sometime in Spring next year.

QuoteDuring Kickstarter back in March, people asked for Linux version and since porting doesn’t require that many resources now thanks to Unity we decided to give it a go and now we’re going to have the alpha build on 25th August.

No Man's Sky's good twin?

It looks really good. The HUD reminds me of Metroid Prime, and graphics, while not technically impressive, are beautiful. I hope to hear more from the devs pretty soon.

And now I feel like an a**hole for spending $60 on the GOG version of NMS (even though in all fairness [the game runs perfectly under WINE with Steam overlay integration and a Steam Controller](http://steamcommunity.com/id/qchto/screenshots/))..
Oh well.. At least it will keep me occupied until this game arrives!

Looks good.
I can totally see the motivativation to get of that planet.
Question for me would be how they plan to proceed after leaving it - will there still be intertesting and reasonable things to do or will it just turn out to be another grind for the heck of it?

Looks interesting enough for me. I voted for it on the GOG wishlist. Hopefully they plan a DRM free version.

It's always a very good sign when even the pre-release stuff (the builder in this case) already works perfectly on Linux.
Also "Windows and Linux PCs". Someone will be happy. :D

i really liked what i saw in that trailer
i rather have one good, fleshed out world than millions of shallow onces.

Because of no mans sky is using phyreengine and can't be ported to linux by devs who created that game AND it is slacking in actual content, I'm pretty happy to see this kind of game to come.

The game looks really nice. I wonder how it feels though. Rising World looked nice, as a departure from blocky Minecraft, but resulted in an uncanny valley feel instead.

This looks awesome! Like, the kind of game I always wanted to try. By the way, Liam, could you ask Feral about a possible port of Mafia 2 on Linux? I've seen the game was ported to Mac last week. I asked them, but you definitely have more power than me :) Keep up the good work!

When the [Kickstarter campaign](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2043603103/planet-nomads) of Planet Nomads started, the graphical style immediately reminded my at No Man's Sky. This was already enough for me to become a backer.
But the gameplay will probably be quite different to NMS. From what I've seen the goal is not to move across planets or even star systems, it's more about to survive on your planet and crafting your own shelter, vehicles etc.
From what I've seen and played in NMS, you "only" gather resources to improve or build better equipment (where you need to find blueprints for), and you buy other ships. To be honest, I think I like NMS survival style more than Planet Nomads style will be. But as I'm not an alpha backer, I couldn't check yet. So it will be interesting on release.
edit: Of course another reason to back Planet Nomads was, it will get a Linux version ;)

Building a spaceship capable of interplanetary travel is the first end goalI'm not fluent in English, but doesn't that say that the first goal is to get out of the planet, but then you'll be able to travel across planets as well? I personally really like the idea of interplanetary travels, it still makes me dream ;)

NMS works fine under Wine I'm told, so just use playonlinux with it. Its OpenGL so there should be very little performance loss due to using Wine.

Well, maybe later you can travel to other planets like in No Man's Sky. But this seems to be a goal, where you need a long time to get to. Like the goal to reach the center of the galaxy in NMS. We will see ;) I'm looking forward to Planet Nomads, and play meanwhile NMS.From what I've seen the goal is not to move across planets or even star systems, it's more about to survive on your planet and crafting your own shelter, vehicles etc.In Liam's article he says that:

I wish I would have heard about it earlier in time to get alpha access.
For $40 you can still get alpha access from their website.
