Planet Nomads looks like the survival game to really get me interested in the genre, the developers emailed in to let me know that the game is coming to Linux and will release in alpha form this month on the 25th of August.
Note: It will currently be limited to alpha backers only, with Early Access due sometime in Spring next year.
From their email to me:
You can also see public confirmation in their news post here.
I should be getting a key from the developer to check it out, very excited!
Features
- Creation, survival and exploration are equally important
- Planet Nomads supports lego-style building on a large scale
- Building a spaceship capable of interplanetary travel is the first end goal
- Procedurally generated strange worlds with intricate biomes
- Open design - to easy add new mechanics and features as the game grows
About the game
Planet Nomads is a sandbox game of survival through building. As a lone scientist crash-landing on a beautiful, but unforgiving alien planet, your wit and craftiness will determine your fate in the upcoming days. Salvage all you can from the shipwreck and build something useful. A shelter for protection against the elements and curious creatures. A vehicle to expand your reach. When you've covered your basic survival needs, start a journey towards those strange monuments shining on the horizon, explore lairs of dangerous beasts and discover places with rare materials. All in the pursuit of building a spaceship that will take you to other planets.

QuoteDuring Kickstarter back in March, people asked for Linux version and since porting doesn’t require that many resources now thanks to Unity we decided to give it a go and now we’re going to have the alpha build on 25th August.

Since No Man's Sky is using OpenGL, developers can at some point decide to make native Linux version.

Aaaaah shiiit - this is one thing I can see myself throwing money at. Please please please Gaming God, let this one be as good as it looks!
EDIT: Liam, could you perhaps ask them if there's a need for more Linux testers? If so I'd be happy to chip in on the closed Alpha, if that'd potentially make a difference.

I normally shy away from pre-orders, but if the $40 early access on their website covers Linux in ~8 day I may just have to do it ^^
Not sure if my rig is up for the task, according to the systemrequirements my gtx 970 is enough, but I can't for the life of me figure out the power ratio between various intel cpu's - is my ageing i5 2500k enough?

Quoting: GuestI was wrong, I got it running in Wine this morning & then 3 hours later I realised it's actually pretty good.Quoting: lucifertdarkQuoting: GuestJust makes me wish No Mans Sky was ported to linux. No you really don't, No Man's Sky sucks badly.
Played the GOG-version on wine today. I think it's wonderful, but I would rather play it natively.

Looks good :)
Wish I could have the money I spent in NMS back... =/
So far by the look of the trailer this is what I want.

I want to see this game for myself so I plopped my money down for the Alpha on August 25th. Here's hoping it goes well :)

It's possible they might. They brought Joe Danger to Linux, and the port wouldn't be too big of a leap since it uses OpenGL. It's more my style than this game. Life is enough of a survival game for me. I want to relax and explore the galaxy.

I liked the idea of NMS but its seeming very repetitive and no linux.
Now this... is interesting. Survival, building. What happens when you get off your planet though? all the gameplay has shown you having to survive, build a base etc...

If I had the choice of playing this or NMS, it would probably be this. (Of course I've played neither, but still...) Planet Nomads looks pretty sweet.

And No Man's Sky is gone! the most recent update to Wine killed it stone dead, typical Wine, every time I get something working they update Wine & break what I had working.
