Retro-Pixel Castles is a very cool Early Access pixel styled city building simulation, the game has a massive update that introduces a new items system along with new buildings for it.

Now mobs (enemies) can pick up items like armour and weapons and you can also build them to equip your villagers with.

Lots of new items:
QuoteIron and leather helmets, Iron and leather chest armor, swords, axes, pickaxes, hoes, hammers, shovels, bandages, medkits, healing potions, food rations, iron ore, iron ingots and silk

Of course, you also have new buildings for creating the items and smelting the ore.

You can see the update info on Steam here.

The developer is also working on a UI overhaul, which so far sounds pretty decent too.

It's one of my favourite Early Access titles, don't let the fact that it's not finished put you off. It's a true gem!

About the game
A godlike village simulator designed to bridge the gap between the complexities of village simulation with the simplicity of classic 1990s real-time strategy. Inspired by games like Towns, Gnomoria, Warcraft, Banished and Dwarf Fortress. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Did they finally add a game mode between "Constant attacks by monster hordes" and "no monsters at all"?

They added spawn points. If you destroy spawn point monsters stop coming. Spawn points can apear again in all places where your fire is not reaching.
