Rocket League is way overdue, we all know that, but honestly I am fully expecting it to arrive with the patch due in September named the 'Rumble Update'. This update will come with a bunch of stuff including a new game mode.

I'm speculating of course, so don't take this as solid confirmation of anything. The evidence is starting to come together though and I will be extremely surprised if Linux isn't released with the Rumble update next month.

Every time Rocket League is updated on SteamDB, the Linux depot is now also updated and this has been true for about two weeks now. This is the single most activity the Linux side of RL has ever seen being pushed into branches on Steam.

Originally the Linux version sat in its own "steamos" branch, but it seems like it has been finally put into their main testing branch named "psyonix". Why else would this happen if not to ready it for release? You can see the named branches on this SteamDB page.

On top of that, the Director of Development at Psyonix tagged me in a tweet about the Linux version recently too:

@darkgallium @RocketLeague @thenaughtysquid We're working on it, can't reveal the date yet

They are still being careful not to give any indicators after their previous failures to get it out.

I'm going to be honest, due to how long we have been waiting my patience for it started to wear thin. Considering how much activity it's seeing on SteamDB right now I am getting excited again! I just hope my own excitement for it doesn't get squashed again.

The game still has a crazy amount of people playing, right now there's around forty-four thousand people playing. So at least we aren't getting the game when it's dead, we are getting a still very popular game.

Don't care anymore. The game was interesting when it was released. Totally lost interest in it – to be honest i really forgot the game altogether and i don't care in the 12th "soon to be released news" anymore. I am throwing my money at people who deliver – not just promising. If they finally release it – i don't care anymore.

So because a game was delayed, you're just going to completely ignore it? That's such a sad attitude to take.

@pythoneer, the game hasn't lost interest, there is still 100k+ people playing it every evening. Even if it's released in september the game will be enjoyable.

I got my copy with Steam Controller, never installed it, still waiting for the Linux release, but this "We're working on it, can't reveal the date yet" is not too promising :/

Too late, I had fun playing it on Windows Christmas last year, at least I think it was last year, it might have been the year before, but anyway it's far too late now.

Once its released I believe (: Once its released I try it (; Got it with steam controller and also never installed due to missing Linux version. Looking forward though!

Correction: if the port is done right it will be very enjoyable!

The only problem is that I'm crap at it... Hope to be able to play with inxperienced people.

Is cross-platform multiplayer granted?

Can players create groups (so not playing with random people)? If Yes a GOL group would be awesome!

Last question... Is Controller a good idea? Or only Steam Controllers will work?

Hope to see the game for Linux... One day. If not this September, next month, next year...sincerely, I own more games I'm able to play (time management problem not Hardware problem)

You are making a mistake, man. The game is and always will be fun. I got it with the monthly bundle and even if I wanted to wait for the linux version, I tried it one day on windows and I had a hard time stopping; I put 17 hours in a few days and I see myself putting hundreds more in linux if the game is decently optimized.
