itch.io is once again leading the way in innovative features for developers. They have announced new featured for developers who run Kickstarter campaigns and new email features to send messages to specific groups of purchases.
Essentially, they will allow you to import a list of backers from Kickstarter to assign them download urls and easily email them. It's a simple, yet brilliant idea that might sway a few more developers towards their service.
The other new ability, is being able to email specific groups of customers, like this demo shows:

I will say it again: I think we all need to keep a closer eye on itch.io as they are becoming quite awesome. Their ever increasing catalogue of games, open source desktop client (MIT license) and constant improvement has me extremely impressed.

QuoteIf you’ve run a Kickstarter campaign and are looking for a way to distribute your digital rewards then you’re in luck! We’re introducing a really simple way to import all of your backers, assign them access through download URLS, and contact them via email. In addition to sending out your game’s files, you can also distribute external keys (eg. Steam keys).

QuoteFor example, if you’ve run an early-access style program with itch.io’s refinery, you might want to send a special message to your first set of backers. You can now select them specifically when drafting the email!

Funny you mention this, as I just registered at itch.io and installed their client yesterday! Coincidence? Synchronicity? Or PROOF OF THE LINUX OVERMIND?
My growing dissatisfaction with Steam's clients has me starting to ponder alternatives. I'm thinking sc-controller with the Itch client might be a nice change of pace. (Though, I've got to contact them about adding a zoom feature akin to a webbrowser's to their client. It's lovely, but the font is even tinier than the Steam client's. lol.)
Anyway, I agree with you. Itch.io is worth watching.
