BATTLETECH is the turn-based mech battling strategy game that was funded on Kickstarter. Harebrained Schemes have now shown off some impressive pre-alpha gameplay.

The impressive amount it gained on Kickstarter wasn't the end for funding, as they are also taking orders by their website where they have gained an additional few hundred thousands dollars.

What did you think to the video? I was quite impressed by what they had to show so early on in development. Looks like it will be a quality strategy game for us when it finally arrives.

Thanks for pointing it out BTRE. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Whoa, I didn't know about this! I was just telling my younger brother last night that someone needed to make a proper Battletech turn based game last night! Awesome.

Looks great, I'm looking forward to this now, been really disappointed in Battletech/Mechwarrior franchise since MW3 , this game may very well turn things around

I've honestly never cared about the license, but Harebrained Schemes have earned a certain level of loyalty from me and my ears always perk up at the words "turn-based" strategy, so I'll be keeping an eye on this.

All I can say is that they did a fantastic, very faithful job of recreating the Shadowrun universe, so they have earned themselves lots of credibility...and are likely to do the same with the Battletech world. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Yeah that's why they've earned my loyalty. Shadowrun 2e was my life in high school. And I haven't played Hong Kong yet (I am really too poor for this hobby, lol) but both Returns and Dragonfall blew me away. Like I said, I'm indifferent to Battletech, but at this point I'd play any TBS from them even if it was Hello Kitty. Lol

So... will this be on Linux? I'm assuming that since we're talking about it, it at least hopefully will be. Has it been officially confirmed or anything?

I literally ctrl-f'ed this article and comments looking for "linux." :)

hmmm... remove the floating dmg numbers + add a little more oomph and drama to the weapon firing/impact animations and I could picture me quite happily playing what is shown in this early build.
Definitely the most promising attempt to capture the BT spirit in a long, long time. Choosing the 3025 setting and borrowing the MWO mech models( probably the best feature of that game)show good taste so far and if the campaing and ai will be able to live up to that promise then this might become pretty awesome. ^_^

I loved their "Shadowrun" titles, so I feel confident that this will be very enjoyable. I must admit that I actually have zero experience with "Mechs" previously (not counting some lame movie by Guillermo del Toro) but this looks both beautiful as well as damn fun!

I did the same on the linked article, and voila:
BATTLETECH is a turn-based, tactical 'Mech combat game for PC. (And Mac and Linux!)

No, don't anybody whine about the "PC" wording - let's celebrate a new interesting announcement!
