The excellent OMG! Ubuntu! website has discovered a few nifty Linux desktop applications that will help you get notified when your favourite streamers go live. Handy if you follow our livestreams that's for sure.
There's a "Twitch Live Panel" GNOME extension, a "Twitch Indicator" panel applet for Ubuntu Unity and "Twitch Watch 2" (scroll down for the proper Linux download, not the one at the top) a cross-platform desktop app.
I tried out Twitch Watch 2 and it seems to do exactly what it says on the tin:
It seems to have a pretty no frills approach as it is quite simple. While simple, it does all you need it to really do and I might even continue using it to keep up with community streams.
It's great to see that such apps exist, as livestreaming is becoming incredibly popular!

I've been using Twitch Indicator for something like a year now, it's fantastic. As bare-bones and unobtrusive as it gets, which is exactly what I want. I just need to know if/when people I follow get online, and I don't need an extra window cluttering up the place. Perfect for my rather simple needs.

I am settle with that software because NO FLASH !
I have everything in one software and is really awesome.
You integrate basically chatty and VLC Player to that softwre and is very easy :)
I can get Desktop Notifications etc, I can see who are are streaming Live.
I can watch up to 4 channels if I want to and I can be continuously in 4 channels to chat if I want to do so.

Let me get this straight, the one site that would actually benefit from browser push notifications (via GCM etc) does not have them?
I'm disappoint.
It seems silly that one needs a dedicated app for such a basic convenience. I guess I should not be surprised though considering twitch is still pushing flash. Viva la livestreamer.
