Here’s the news you have been desperate to hear, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided [Official Site] is officially heading to SteamOS & Linux and it’s being ported by Feral Interactive.

They have confirmed the game will release this year, but they aren’t being any clearer than that right now. Could it be my early Christmas present? Oh please say it is–although even sooner than that would be great!

From the Press Release:

Quote“Over the past 16 years, the Deus Ex games have been leaders in game design, expertly blending innovative storytelling and gameplay within a compelling game world,” said David Stephen, Managing Director at Feral Interactive. “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes it to the next level, giving players an unprecedented degree of freedom in a spectacular cyberpunk setting, where their actions shape both narrative and gameplay.”

They will announce the required PC specifications closer to the launch date.

Incredible news! I played through the previous game years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I am already a fan of the series.

It’s worth noting that reviews for the game overall on Steam are "Mixed", mainly due to microtransactions and an apparent abrupt ending. As usual though, I reserve all my thoughts on it until I actually play it.

It’s not cheap at £39.99, so at release you may need to dig a little deep into those pockets of yours. It also has a £24.99 season pass, so hopefully given that price it means extra actual story content will come too.

It’s also one of a select few games that you can buy bundled with a Steam Controller, so if you don’t own one it’s a chance to get some money off buying them together.

About the game

The year is 2029, and mechanically augmented humans have now been deemed outcasts, living a life of complete and total segregation from the rest of society.

Now an experienced covert operative, Adam Jensen is forced to operate in a world that has grown to despise his kind. Armed with a new arsenal of state-of-the-art weapons and augmentations, he must choose the right approach, along with who to trust, in order to unravel a vast worldwide conspiracy.

Quoting: WorMzyAwesome news! I've been replaying the previous game in Crossover (works perfectly, btw) to rekindle my interest in the series. Gonna be looking forward to this!
When I tried to play it on Crossover 15 I got a black screen, how did you proceed?
I probably should've clarified that you need to disable DX11 in the options (Steam has a separate option to launch the config manager, if you didn't install through steam then you might need to manually edit an ini somewhere).

The wine appdb says that you need to enable a specific setting.

The only slightly worrying thing is that Feral said there was "no news" about Denuvo being enabled. I'd be surprised if that thing was ported to Linux, but if it was it could that would be a problem.

Seeing as it might actually convince others to do Linux ports, like Doom or that new game by the Limbo creators, why exactly would Denuvo coming be a problem? Aside from the obvious dislike of DRM angle that is.

Great News!
Keep it up Feral :)

Fantastic! For the first time in very long, the game title that is at the very top of my steam-wishlist is really coming to tux. The only thing that could trump this, would be an announcement that Bethesda plans to support Linux in all their current & future titles.

That is true, I havent heard much about Aspyr or VP porting anything to Linux for sometime now. I guess Aspyr is likely to be involved in Civ6 given their previous and I know VP is working with ARMA, but their output in comparison to Feral is a drop in the ocean.

Not that Im complaining about getting ports I like Feral's work, but I fear as most AAA studios seem to outsource the ports we are in a single source market for Linux games and would hate the rug to be pulled now if something were ever to happen to Feral.

Not all DRM is equal. As I understand it, Denuvo is a pretty terrible one. You're basically tied to their service. If they give up, your game is gone. It's not unthinkable that the next major protection is developed by some other company, leaving Denuvo in the dust with no guarantees about you purchase at all.

Yes, Feral seems to be the only source of AAA titles for Linux recently. Fortunately, we have plenty of non-AAA titles worth playing. I have 54 SteamOS/Linux titles on my wishlist, not to mention the backlog in my library... :)

I'd consider Tropico, CoH, Dying Light, Talos Principle, Shroud of the Avatar, Mount&Blade Warband, Metro-Series AAA titles as well.

And we got some good other games as well, not necessarily AAA, but very good games with quite a budget... (Cities: Skylines, PoE, ..).

The most important thing is that the developers start building up skills/know-how in Linux, because that's a huge issue for a lot of developers/studios. Even though, there is a lack of experience (even on the engine part) so there are probably a lot of issues to be solved, but we're getting along, taking one step after the other.

And there still are a few in the pipeline I consider AAA titles.
Yes, it's true, a few we'll very likely never see or at least not any time soon (FarCry, Dragon Age [or whatever-by-EA-Games], WoW [or-what-ever-from-Activision/Blizzard] etc. come to my mind).

There are not so many AAA titles every year, and of quite some we got ports now at a later point in time. That may change in future, but I don't see that any time soon :-).

I personally think that every engine vendor will in future release a AAA for their own engine (if they're a game developer as well, so not Unity probably) with each generation. Why? Showcase.

I noticed that they'll be using Apple's Metal API per their web page. I left them a tweet and asked if they'll be using MoltenVK, which allows for the use of Vulkan on Apple's Metal. I thought it might simplify/streamline the codebase.

Molten - Vulkand and faster OpenGL ES on iOS and macOS

Excellent news! The Feral Radar is looking mighty full at the moment, so it'll be an expensive last few months of the year. Bread and water for me so I can feed the Feral machine.

And both Depth Charge and 808 SB12S marked "very soon" have not been revealed yet.

Good news! One day the original game will be released for GNU/Linux and it will be great. I got Deus Ex: Human Revolution more than year ago from GameChanger Charity but haven't touched the game on Steam yet. I wonder, does my purchase from the charity count for Linux or Windows? Also, how about SteamCMD downloads? Do SteamCMD for Linux downloads for Windows games count as Linux or Windows?

I sincerely doubt my machine would run it, but great news all the same. Glad to see more stuff from the big studios coming over.

They probably had to use Metal since Mac is missing the GL version required to implement all of the features and it probably wasn't feasible to do it with compute like they did in Shadow of Mordor.
