They have confirmed the game will release this year, but they aren’t being any clearer than that right now. Could it be my early Christmas present? Oh please say it is–although even sooner than that would be great!
From the Press Release:
Quote“Over the past 16 years, the Deus Ex games have been leaders in game design, expertly blending innovative storytelling and gameplay within a compelling game world,” said David Stephen, Managing Director at Feral Interactive. “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes it to the next level, giving players an unprecedented degree of freedom in a spectacular cyberpunk setting, where their actions shape both narrative and gameplay.”
They will announce the required PC specifications closer to the launch date.
Incredible news! I played through the previous game years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I am already a fan of the series.
It’s worth noting that reviews for the game overall on Steam are "Mixed", mainly due to microtransactions and an apparent abrupt ending. As usual though, I reserve all my thoughts on it until I actually play it.
It’s not cheap at £39.99, so at release you may need to dig a little deep into those pockets of yours. It also has a £24.99 season pass, so hopefully given that price it means extra actual story content will come too.
It’s also one of a select few games that you can buy bundled with a Steam Controller, so if you don’t own one it’s a chance to get some money off buying them together.
About the game
The year is 2029, and mechanically augmented humans have now been deemed outcasts, living a life of complete and total segregation from the rest of society.
Now an experienced covert operative, Adam Jensen is forced to operate in a world that has grown to despise his kind. Armed with a new arsenal of state-of-the-art weapons and augmentations, he must choose the right approach, along with who to trust, in order to unravel a vast worldwide conspiracy.
Very nice, that could be a cool couch play if it works well with SteamLink and the controller (often having issues there due to strange controller implementations in games).
As far as the mixed reviews go, that's kind of a sensitive grey area. On the one hand, is it fair to give the game a negative rating based mostly on the microtransactions? Probably not. On the other hand, having microtransactions of any kind in a $60 single player game is already treading on fairly scummy ground, though if they're purely cosmetic you could kind of forgive that sort of thing. But this? Selling praxis kits? That is downright shameful and Squeenix deserve every bit of the uproar they are getting because of this. The utterly ridiculously priced season pass doesn't help either.
That aside, it is by most accounts a really good game and I have no intentions of ever purchasing any praxis kits, I'll earn them on my own, thank you very much.

Quoting: skinnyrafYou mean the wrongs of the second game, don't you? :)
Hehe! Well, technically I believe it's even the fourth, all in all. :) But you know what I mean. The first after the resurrection of the franchise.
Quoting: skinnyrafI agree that the only reason for negative reviews that seems to matter is the abrupt ending - seems to be a hint of essential DLC coming soon that will conclude open story lines.
The short ending is one thing, but mainly I hear complaints about the microtransactions, supposedly you can buy some virtual items that's only active for the playthrough they are purchased for.
It is kinda silly, sure, but it's totally optional. Square Enix wants our money. What else is new.

Quoting: WorMzyAwesome news! I've been replaying the previous game in Crossover (works perfectly, btw) to rekindle my interest in the series. Gonna be looking forward to this! When I tried to play it on Crossover 15 I got a black screen, how did you proceed?
By the way, I bought the very first Deux Ex in its big cardboard box back when it got released on Mac, I still have it proudly displayed on my living room. This game single-handedly changed the way I see video games, and it's the one title I quote when asked if video games can be a form of art or not.
I own every game in the series, even its utter failures, and I can't wait to play this, System Shock remake and System Shock 3.

The wine appdb says that you need to enable a specific setting.
The only slightly worrying thing is that Feral said there was "no news" about Denuvo being enabled. I'd be surprised if that thing was ported to Linux, but if it was it could that would be a problem.
