Event[0] [Official Site] is a very cool looking sci-fi exploration game, and the great news is that the developers told me they are doing a Linux build too.

I was sad to see it release without Linux support, so I queried the developer on twitter and got this reply:

@thenaughtysquid @GamesRep hey! We're working on a Linux version too. Can't confirm a release date yet, but we're pretty confident about it!

About the game (Official)

Event[0] is an award-winning narrative exploration game where you must build a relationship with a lonely spaceship computer to get home. Set in a retrofuture inspired by sci-fi classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, the game is about forging a personal relationship with your only companion, an insecure AI entity capable of procedurally generating over two million lines of dialog. You interact with the computer, named Kaizen, by typing messages on terminals throughout the ship. The reality of your situation will emerge organically as you communicate with Kaizen and explore the mysterious ship in first-person perspective.

Looks like a cross between SOMA and The Talos Principle, two of my all-time favourite games. I'll definitely be watching this.

The only good cliché is a sci-fi cliché. ;)

But seriously, I'm hoping it's more about the gotchas of human-AI interaction than a new take on HAL. Wouldn't bet on it though.

Omg Suddenly we got toons of sci fi games. Jesus, I remember the good old days. You hade to wait, get a bit frustrated, and maybe, just maybe the game would release for linux.

You went on to steam and wrote 1+ for linux in hopes off seeing a port.
Then you would get disappointed after hearing the game will never come out for linux.
Or the classic one, at the moment we are not planning for linux.
Aaahh thoser where the days :D.

And now we suddenly get all these games, along with some nice upcoming titles.
Now how in the world should I have time to play all these awesome games xD.

No for real, Im really happy with this weeks releases and announcements :).
Event[0] is something Iv been hoping for, and it also on gog.
Hopefully a linux version will be out there aswell, but judging by the tweet answer from the devs I will wishlist it there.

Been a long time since the good old text parser has been in a game. Looks a bit more modernized than the Kings Quest days though.

There's been a few since then, especially in the IF and adventure hobbyist circles. In modern commercial games the text interface ends up at best a gimmick or at worst a hindrance to enjoyment, but there are gems.

Of the oldies, I still have fond memories of playing (and fiddling with the code of) what I suspect was an unauthorized fan remake/translation of ELIZA for the C64 as a kid, and the early Sierra adventures were some of my first loves. Until I dumped them for Lucasarts that is. Of course there's plenty of awesome IF like most of the Infocom adventures, but those I discovered much later on the PC.

There were a couple of PCs running this at EGX Rezzed this year, I wanted to play it but there was always a queue (not just someone playing it, but a queue). I take this as a good sign.

I'm pretty sure that ELIZA was in the public domain as it was developed in an academic setting. A new implementation only took a few hundred lines of PROLOG, most of that data, it was one of the early assignments when I did my AI classes at University. In any case you were probably playing a version based on the BASIC implementation published in Creative Computing in 1977.

If anyone is interested in experiencing computing history but doesn't want to install Emacs there's a JavaScript version.

That sounds about right, yes. I was knee-high when I had it so I was unaware of and uninterested in the history. I mostly just had fun changing the responses to turn the psychiatrist into an extra talkative executioner or something.
