Rocket League released for SteamOS, it's in beta

Rocket League is now officially available for SteamOS, due to the time of the release I will be unable to give any actual impressions as I am likely asleep while this gets published.

I will be able to get impressions up rather early tomorrow morning (UTC time), as it will be my first priority. It will likely be the main game on our Friday livestream too.

It's been a bit of a wild ride, but it's here ‒ finally.

They are currently only supporting SteamOS during the beta as originally mentioned in their announcements. Hopefully there won't be too many issues for those of us on desktop Linux.

Find Rocket League on Steam.

UPDATE: BTRE's quick test
I live in a more convenient time zone than Liam and so I've already given the game a quick look. It works on my Arch box, so those worried about the beta being SteamOS-only can now breathe a sigh of relief. Those Mesa fans out there might also be pleased to know it works on my aging Radeon 7870 with the latest git build (haven't tried with the stable builds of Mesa). I played a couple of quick matches vs the AI and performance is good, sticking almost always near 60 fps during gameplay with the default of high quality settings (save anti-aliasing) . There is some stutter as the game loads assets for the first time when a match starts or when you first open the main menu but it goes away for me rather quickly. Hopefully it's something the devs will improve on as I imagine that it can be real annoying in online matches.

I'm sure Liam will have a fuller port report sometime soon.

About the game

Seems to run very well (High settings with low AA, HD 7950, Mesa), but there is close to a 20second delay when opening the options menu - in-game or on the main menu. Anyone else have this?

I just woke up,downloaded Rocket League and updated my graphic card to the latest Drivers
Linux x64 (AMD64/EM64T) Display Driver 370.28 8.9.2016

First impressions is that I am amazed that everything is working fine not even a glitch even though this is a beta version.

I am playing at resolution 2560x1440 with a GTX 980 on Manjaro Distro with no problems at all.
All my controllers are working fine 2x Logitech F710 and Steam Controller.

I have played only a friendly match so far, no time for more testing since I am off to work.

Does it have "cross-os" multiplayer?
And a decent match-making for total beginners... like me?

I am very glad it finally arrived on our platform of choice. Also good to hear that performance seems to be fine.
Just bought it and i am looking forward to play it soon.

Anyone compared performance yet? It seems to run a little better than via Wine CSMT

I downloaded it this morning and launched the game. The first time the game runs windowed but searching in the options I configure full screen and Vsinc and some antialias. Details in high. All goes ok. It works.

Hum... were is the "languaje" option?... I cant find "languaje" in the menu, so I have to leave in english. I would have preferred my "spanish" languaje, but english its OK for me. I supose that translation is in the works.

Select a exhibition match... Rumble mode 3 vs 3 and launch the game. The game runs smoothly with some stutters the first time it loads some effects or elements (explosions, ball effects, smokes, shoes... :D ) but once the effect is loaded the first time the stutters disapears.

Then I select a online match. The game searched a match around my game level and preferences. Game starts and all in all the game runs really well. I dont know if I was playing with another plattform players, but I find a match only in seconds, and the "Rumble mode population bar" was almost full.

The gameplay is smoothly and the rumble mode is very funny. It runs flawesly and its a very good gameplay to be a beta version.

Good job Psyonix!

Played in:
Ubuntu 16:04.1
AMD FX 8320
8GB Ram
GTX 770
Nvidia 370.28 drivers

While it took some time and I'd obviously have preferred this to have happened earlier, it's so nice to see proper credit given to our platform with a "beta" being such stable.

I played a single exhibition. Performance was good and the steam controller worked well. I started a second match, and it crashed to desktop. I restarted and played a third with the same settings and stadium to see if that was the problem and no crash.

So yes, it's great, but definitely still beta.

Just a little advice to all new players: Adjust the camera settings, its much easier to play with higher fov and distance

I have the same problem.
