Space Pirates and Zombies 2 [Official Site] looks damn good, the reviews are looking good for it too and it is still planned for Linux which is great news.

I asked the developer for an update on it and they said this:
QuoteIt won't be until after multiplayer is online and we have at least 3 major feature pushes before then. I would say 4 months absolute minimum, but likely more. Linux will come online near the 1.0 release. Unfortunately, it doesn't make sense to maintain a Mac and Linux build right now as maintaining them and dealing with compatibility issues will take us offline for significant time vs further progressing toward 1.0. We are just a two person company, so we have to make hard decisions about what we work on and in what order.

Will you pick it up when it arrives on Linux?

About the game
In SPAZ 2 you must survive in an evolving post apocalyptic Galaxy. The zombie threat is defeated, infrastructure has collapsed, fuel is scarce, and scavenging means survival.

Initially the Galaxy contains hundreds of fleets, each trying to survive. AI captains do everything the player can. The player is not special and is not the center of the Galaxy.

As resource scarcity becomes critical, ships come into conflict just to survive. Factions may form for protection or split due to starvation. Old friends must become fodder.

Stronger factions establish and defend territories, set up resource hubs, and establish star bases. Weaker factions may resort to banditry. Each captain is unique, persistent, and shapes the Galaxy.

When factions meet, combat is usually the result. While the strategic side of SPAZ 2 is about exploration, territorial control, and faction building, the action side of SPAZ 2 is about ship construction, tactics, and salvage. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

SPAZ was one of my most favorite indie games. I'll definitely consider buying SPAZ 2. I'm not too happy about it moving to 3D, though, (I loved the detailed 2D graphics), we will see how it turns out.

I am really interested in this one. I just hope that they make cross platform code from the beginning, since it seems that's quite a frequent issue.

Thanks for supporting Linux :)

Well then in 4 months or so when it's released for Linux I'll be buying it.

A 2 man team offering Linux support where AAA shitty companies "can't"? I'm definitely in.

Once it's out and looks stable, this will most likely be a "must buy" for me. The original SPAZ was and is awesome. The development shots show that the 3D is more for looks and a top down view still exists for the old schoolers. It'll be interesting to see how the AI plays out - that may make or break the game, as the other AIs look to have a key role to play in SPAZ2.

The best part of SPAZ for me was the ship building. I had certain builds for going against pirates, different ones for fighting zombies. Even though the build options were limited, they were easy and satisfying. Hope they do not mess up the system by over-improving it.

If you like top-down space shooters with awesome build mechanics, you should check out Reassembly. Absolutely superb.

I've also heard very good things about Captain Forever Remix, but I've yet to bite that bullet and buy it.
