The Steam Hardware Weekend sale is now live and it seems Valve now sell accessories for the Steam Controller.
All items are now 30% off, but this does not include Steam Machines. Although for me in the UK it seems the Alienware Steam Machine is currently on a deal too.

I'm not entirely sure how long they have been doing this, as I haven't seen it announced anywhere. You can now buy a Wireless Receiver, a Carrying Case, an Aperture skin for the controller and a special Battery Door that has space to store the Dongle.
They can be purchased as a bundle, or separately. I was wondering how long it would be before Valve sold the Wireless Receiver by itself considering I've seen a number of people break theirs.

You can grab the accessories, a Steam Controller or a Steam Link for much cheaper than usual. Now's your chance to bag some cool kit!
See the sale here.

It may be OCD, or it may not, but I really want my SC to be perfect, since it's very precious for me (my first real controller, bought from my very first own money -first salary-, and I also love the way it works and feels)
I totally understand that feelings.

And the carrying case is very good as well, I'd rather keep that and get rid of the original box, if it has special pockets for the data cable and the wireless receiver extender (I don't want them loose in there and potentially scratch my SC)
Looks like it has enough space:

... while we in Norway still only get the "coming soon" message on the controller page. :(Same in Switzerland.
It sucks so hard, a mountain was flattened.

You can get it in digitec for 89 and they have plenty of stock. But it's more expensive, in particular with the sale going on right know, so I'm still thinking about sending it to some friends in France.

Living in Australia, I ordered mine from Amazon. It arrived about 8 days later.
I've hardly been on my gaming rig the last couple of months. Finally understanding console gamers.
Mythtv + steam makes a nice mix.

I got mine with a Steam Machine bought at a regular PC shop in Germany (computeruniverse to be precise).
I love it.
I have had only two issues with it. First, joystick rotation puzzles using the touchpad are a pain: Life is Strange photo focus, Batman Arkham Asylum hacking. Second, it's slightly too easy to press the hardware joystick button - it's especially annoying in the Witcher 2, as I keep triggering Witcher sense mid-combat, which usually leads to stagger and often to death. I have never had this issue with an Xbox controller.
I haven't really tried it in fps games yet, apart from some System Shock trainings. It works great in 3rd person, strategy and arcade games. Torchlight and Transistor/Bastion were fine too. Platformers - not so much, the D-pad/touchpad is less precise than a proper dedicated D-pad, but it is possible I simply suck :)

That skin looks really nice. I would probably get a steam controller in the future.
*Looks at his xbox controller* - When will you die?
But is the steam controller even useful outside of steam?
Or is it built to steam?
And can I still get the same value if I use it outside of steam?
Im not saying Im not using steam, but I have been getting less active and prefer sites like GoG.

I ordered mine to norway from amazon.com.
If one store doesn't want to sell to you, just find another that will.

Yeah, I know, but at that price, my old wired 360 controller is still damn good enough.
I won't pay almost 90 $ for a controller that I'll use maybe 2 times a month (at most) when I have another one sitting under my desk.
50$, yeah, that I can think about.

I have two steam controller & they are great. I do not have a games console so the whole "but xbox is better" is moot to me. My 9yo is quite good with these controllers as well for the likes of overlord and portal + a couple of RPG games.
decal's look interesting... shame they only let you can't buy multiple of the same type in one go

My big gripe with the Steam Controller is that Valve made it so that it pretty much requires Steam to be running for it to work. There are [workarounds](https://github.com/kozec/sc-controller), but I'm not sure how well they work, since I tend to just open Steam when I want to use my controller anyway.
As for "Is it useful outside of Steam", I find it to be an amazing Gamecube emulator controller, along with playing pretty much anything else where a controller is a great option. Been lately playing Shovel Knight from GOG by adding it to Steam and customizing the game-specific controller settings and it's working amazingly. If you don't want to add the game to Steam, you're going to have to set the desktop controller settings to the way you want it for Shovel Knight, which isn't a great idea if you have other things you want to use the controller for where that config doesn't work. Or use the workarounds to not use Steam at all.

Good timing , I'm on holiday in the US and Gamestop shops are selling the controller at the same steam discount. Bought two today.

I can confirm that the [SC controller](https://github.com/kozec/sc-controller) works fine
I tried with a Bigfish game running via WIne using the Steam controller in wireless mode and it works OK...

I don't like Steam Controller because FPS are easier with 2 Joysticks. SC Controller does work good, and it runs a daemon as well which is nice.
